Sex the Sex with WeSex

Willa Sexman ’15 sent you a sext:

Sex things are great! Ten thousand emails a week are overwhelming! Let’s do more sex things with fewer emails!

Message wbeckman(at)wesleyan(dot)edu to be added to the WeSex listserv and get a weekly email on all sex (and health and queer) things at Wesleyan. Updates from ASHA, the PHAs, the SART Intern, We Speak We Stand, SFCC, Take Back The Night, the Clinic Escorts, Unlocked, and QueerWes will be combined and sent out in one (really just one I promise!) message letting you know all of the things going on during the week, how to get involved, and where to get free condoms and sex toys.

Involved in a sex-related group that isn’t part of WeSex? Email wbeckman(at)wesleyan(dot)edu about your group to get on the list!

From Camille Casareno ’15:

Are you interested in reproductive justice issues? Angered at some recent Supreme Court rulings? Don’t know where to show your support?

Join Clinic Escorts! We escort clinic patients and their families from their car to the clinic door. This group supports a women’s health
clinic in Bridgeport when abortions are scheduled (and protestor presence is the strongest) on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Students of all genders are encouraged to join. Volunteers only need to go once or twice a semester, or how many times you wish!

Training/Info sessions for the curious, newcomers, and returning escorts who would like a refresher:

TUESDAY, 16 SEPTEMBER: 4.15PM-5.00PM; 41 Wyllys Room 113

MONDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER: 12.05-12.50PM; 41 Wyllys Room 112

THURSDAY, 25 SEPTEMBER 12.05-12.50PM; 41 Wyllys Room 113

New volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions. If you absolutely cannot make it to any one of them or if you have any questions or concerns, email me at mcasareno[at]wesleyan[dot]edu.

Q&A with directors Martha Shane ‘05 & Lana Wilson ‘05.

Monday (3/31). 8pm. Powell Cinema. Free.

Clinic Escorts Training & Sign Up

Clinic Escorts

Chantal Ferguson ’13 writes in to let you know about one way to make the most of your Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings:

Wesleyan Clinic Escorts is a group that trains and organizes Wesleyan students to escort patients into a heavily-protested women’s clinic in Bridgeport, CT. Clinic Escorts seeks to provide a respectful and supportive space for women making reproductive health decisions. Clinic Escorting is less a political statement than a functional means of supporting a woman’s right to self-determination and autonomy.

What you do as an individual: Each escort will only need to escort once or twice a semester. We travel in a group of five to the clinic each Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday morning, and return in time for 10 am classes. We are not there to engage with the antis; we are there for the women. Please come to a mandatory training if you want to participate in clinic escorts this semester! You must attend one meeting to sign up to participate whether or not you have been an escort before.

If you are unable to make one of these meetings or have questions, please e-mail Chantal Ferguson ’13 at cferguson[at]wesleyan[dot]edu, or Melody Oliphant ’13 at moliphant[at]wesleyan[dot]edu.

Date: Wed, Thurs, Fri, March 6, 7, 8
Time: 6:45 p.m., 12 p.m., 12 p.m. respectively
Place: 41 Wyllys Room 114

“Lake of Fire” Film Showing

Filmmaker Tony Kaye, best known for American History X, has been working on LAKE OF FIRE for the past fifteen years and has made a film that is unquestionably the definitive work on the subject of abortion. Shot in luminous black and white, which is in fact an endless palette of grays, the film has the perfect aesthetic for a subject where there can be no absolutes, no ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ He gives equal time to both sides, covering arguments from either extremes of the spectrum, as well as those at the center, who acknowledge that, in the end, everyone is ‘right’ – or ‘wrong.’

Professor Mary-Jane Rubenstein will lead a discussion after the film. Sponsored by FemNet and Wesleyan Clinic Escorts.

ADVISORY: The film contains graphic images and language that may be upsetting to some viewers.

Date: Tuesday, April 27
Time: 7pm
