Chris Murphy Seeks Interns, Needs Volunteers

An important message from Michael Linden ’15 on behalf on Representative Chris Murphy’s Senate campaign:

The Murphy campaign is seeking a few Wesleyan students to intern for their campaign from now until the November elections at their new Middletown headquarters. Recent polls have shown that Representative Chris Murphy is close to tied with his Republican opponent Linda McMahon, the founder of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. who is aiming to spend about $100 million on the race in order to essentially buy herself a Senate seat. This is a great opportunity to work on a race that could easily determine who controls the US Senate. If you are interested, contact me as soon as possible and fill out an online internship application here (resume needed). No previous campaign experience is necessary.

Also, the campaign is doing a phone bank at Democratic HQ on Thursday afternoon from 5 to 8PM and is seeking volunteers.  Anyone can come for as long as they can, and pizza will be provided. We will be leaving from the PAC entrance at 4:45.

What: internship / phone bank for Chris Murphy
Date: Now until November / Thursday 5 – 8PM (or for however long you can offer)
Place: Middletown Democratic HQ, 386 Main St, 2nd floor (atop New England Food Emporium in the Main Street Market)
Misc: free food

Do Not Be Disenfranchised!

Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Brian J. Glenn ’91 (yeah, he’s a professor and a Wes alum) teaches a course on Campaigns and Elections* here at Wesleyan.  Today, Glenn writes in on something especially relevant to that class, and to all of you:

On Thursday, the Republican Registrar of Voters for the City of Middletown announced that she is invalidating on a technicality roughly half of the 450 or so registration forms submitted by Wesleyan students.  This is an outrage, and I encourage each and every student to go down Court Street to Middletown City Hall on Monday the 31st and register in person before the November 1 cutoff.
A line of 2,000 students forming outside the Registrar’s door would send the message that Wesleyan’s students will not tolerate attempts to silence them for partisan ends.

If you ever wondered whether your vote matters, the Republican Registrar just answered that question!  Your vote matters.  Please register to vote in person on Monday.

Roosevelt Fireside Chat Policy Discussion Tuesdays

Joel Hochman ’13 writes in to holla:

The Roosevelt Institute welcomes the Wesleyan community to its weekly fireside chat! Come and discuss the week’s hottest issues.

This week: The Tea Party movement. How does its newfound success change the political landscape? What does its influence mean for Democrats? for Republicans? Is the movement even sustainable in the long term?

Also on the agenda: a continuation of last week’s discussion about the unrest in Egypt.

Date:   Feb. 8
Time:   8:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Place:  Usdan Couches
