CFA Seeking Submissions for MiddletownRemix DJ Competition

If you are a Wesleyan DJ hoping to get some neat publicity both on and off campus, the Center for the Arts (CFA) has a great opportunity lined up for you:

The CFA is hosting a DJ competition for Wesleyan students as part of the MiddletownRemix project, a collaborative, place-based sound project that enables participants to develop and express the acoustic identity of Middletown and to explore and experience the soundscapes of the city. Selected students will be commissioned $200 dollars to perform on May 11th at a festival in the North End to celebrate Middletown and the collaborative project.

The competition will have two phases, and the deadline for Phase One is March 31st. Applicants must complete Phase One in order to proceed to Phase Two. More information on the application after the jump.

WESU DJ Training Information Session

Adam Wechsler ’13 wants all you cool kids who love music and have ill-nasty tunes to know:

Do you have a stack of Tuvan throat singing records that the world needs to hear? Did you come home from studying abroad in Berlin with a hard drive full of KMFDM and Einstürzende Neubauten bootlegs? Do you want to show the world how you’re on the cutting edge of deep ecology chillwave? Would you like your voice to be broadcasted across Connecticut with 5000 Watts of power? If so, come to PAC 001 on Monday, October 8th at 5 or Wednesday, October 10th at 7. WESU will be having an information session for any and all interested in becoming a DJ. If you can’t attend one of these info sessions but would still like to get involved, lob an email in the direction of personnel(at)wesufm(dot)org.

When: Monday, October 8th or Wednesday, October 10th
Time: 5PM on October 8th or 7pm on October 10th
Place: PAC 001

DJ Crook$hanks Gives Mix Addicts their Fix with New August Mix

You’ve been waiting. I’ve been waiting. We’ve all been waiting. But thankfully, our trembling arms that pine so hard that intravenous needle full of our drug of choice (DJ mixes) can rest easily as we get our fix and feel this overwhelming euphoria flowing through our veins while casually avoiding an overdose.

DJ Crook$hanks’ August Mix has dropped. And it features album artwork that a reverse Google image search has led me to believe depicts a young Terry Melcher and his mother Doris Day.

All loving joking aside, this month’s mix from the prolific Wesleyan DJ and in-every-band musician, Adrien DeFontaine ’13, arrived a few days ago and is filled with many things I haven’t heard of but also names I recognize like Ginuwine and Boys Noise. It’s already received comments like, “dope,” “Solid!!!,” and “great work by Crook$hanks this August Mix is so good.” Blast this one at your next party, freshmen.

Stream below, and check out each one of Crook$hanks’ past mixes from the year herehereherehereherehere, and here. Tracklisting after the jump.

Crook$hanks is back with another monthly mix

Another month, another mix

Just in time for May, Wesleyan DJ and prolific mix-maker Crook$hanks (Adrien DeFontaine ’13) has finally delivered his April mix of songs he’s been bumpin’ all month long. This time around, we have viral queer rap favorite “Ima Read,” a fantastic remix of my boy Drizzy’s “I’m On One” by $hanks-favorite Unicorn Kid, and a whole bunch of other good stuff for you to check out.

Stream below and click the jump for for the tracklisting. Previous mixes here, here, and here. Thank you $hanks God.

Crook$hanks Releases First of Mix Series

Electronic DJ and producer Crook$hanks (Adrien DeFontaine ’13) has just released the first in a series of monthly electronic music mixes. If you’ve seen Crook DJ various parties around campus, including several spots at Psi U and the Grotto, you have an idea of what to expect. This is not music for laptop speakers.

The mix covers a variety of styles, including baltimore club, ghettotech, house, and rap– appealing to a wide audience of electro lovers. Note: this is not a mix of original material (although there is one Crook$hanks re-edit), but a compilation of artists and songs that Crook$hanks “thinks are cool.”

The mix is dedicated to the artist formerly known as Guido Suave (Ethan Cohen ’13), who inspired Crook to start DJing. Suave has since retired his DJ hat.

Download the mix at Crook’s soundcloud. If that doesn’t work for some reason, there’s a rapidshare.

Track list after the jump.
