The Wesleyan Sustainability Office is seeking frosh and sophomores to serve as Eco Facilitators for the 2016-2017 school year! Eco Facilitators (EFs) are peer-to-peer sustainability educators who promote sustainable lifestyles on campus within the context of global climate change and social inequality.
In Spring 2016, EFs will enroll in a semester-long student forum focused on theories and strategies for sustainable behavior change. Throughout the fall and spring of the 2016-2017 school year, EFs will be paid to implement these strategies, working with first-year students and Res Life to serve as a resource on how to adopt sustainable lifestyles. Working as an Eco Facilitator is a great opportunity to gain leadership skills and take part in building a more sustainable campus community.
Applications are due by 11:59 PM on Saturday, December 5th. An information session will be held on Monday, November 30th at 12:15 PM in Usdan 108 . More information is available HERE, and you can apply HERE. Please email ecofacilitators(at)wesleyan(dot)edu with any questions!

Do you describe yourself as a transparent person? Do you get annoyed when you see recyclable items in the trash? Well if so, Rebecca “bb” Sokol ’15 challenges you to put all of your non-recyclable trash in a plastic bag for one week. (And if, like me, your first thought was “used tampons, too?” I think her answer would be, “no biohazards/get a diva cup.”)
Where does our trash go when you throw it away? How much trash are you generating per week?
The Zero Waste Challenge is easy – you collect everything you don’t recycle or compost in a clear, ziploc bag that we will provide, and you pin it to your backpack for the week. You’ll be surprised at how much you learn about waste and your own habits, and how it alters your decision-making when your trash is physically connected to you! Try it, even if only for part of the week!
From Rachael Metz ’16:
The Wesleyan Sustainability Office is launching the new Eco Facilitators program in Fall 2014. Eco Facilitators are peer-to-peer sustainability educators who promote energy and water conservation, waste reduction, and other sustainable habits on campus. EFs will enroll in a semester-long seminar course designed to equip them with the tools to promote these behavior changes. EF’s will work with first-year students and Res Life to serve as a resource on how to adopt sustainable lifestyles. Working as an Eco Facilitator is a great opportunity to gain leadership skills and learn how to raise Wesleyan’s environmental consciousness and build a sustainable campus culture. Please come to our first information session next week! Snacks will be provided.
