ESQUE

esqueFrom José Luis Sánchez ’18:

ESQUE will put on its annual queer(ed) burlesque show that inclusively showcases works and performances that range in content. There will be commentaries about sexual assault on campus, body image anxiety and reclamation of queer identities.

Be prepared to be challenged ideologically and emotionally. However, just remember to have a lot of fun and play.

Welcome to ESQUE.

ESQUE is not Burlesque.
ESQUE is not for everyone
ESQUE is for everyone
Do not feed ESQUE after midnight
ESQUE wants your love

ESQUE WAAANTS YOU

esque fuck the whatFrom Lauren Burke ’16, otherwise known as Lizard The Wizard:

ESQUE :: wtf is it???
Honestly, we don’t know. But we’re doing a show and we need YOU.

Last Spring, ESQUE took the form of a queer(ed) burlESQUE about desire and difference. This April, we’re doing it all again!

As a show/group/organization ESQUE is all about creating space on this campus for marginalized voices. We’re open to work in any form–poetry, visual art displays, performance art of all kinds, singing, dancing, short film, making strange noises on stage, head-shaving, sex ed demos and more! This is an explicitly political space for work you might not see room for anywhere else.

Want in as a performer or artist or production person!?! Fill out The Big ESQUE Form (link below!!!) by February 26th. Tell us what you want to do and we’ll help you make it happen.

Questions? Email Rémy Hatfield-Gardner (rhatfieldgar[at]wesleyan[dot]edu), José Luis Sánchez (jlsanchez[at]wesleyan[dot]edu), or Sarah
Lurie (slurie[at]wesleyan[dot]edu)!

After After Paquerette: Rethinking Spaces, Waste, and Anal Sanctity

ap2

This article is about something that happened before Thanksgiving break.

Right now, it is fairly difficult for me to take my mind back to such a time, before I feasted in a celebration of excess and resisted the corporately-constructed consumptive temptations of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. These past two weeks have seemed like the sad cold leftovers of fall semester, as I use my limited mental energy to cling to the relevance of my coursework and yeah, finals.

Either way, I’m happy and I’m managing. And thus, I have mustered up the time to write this, which I still think is very relevant in this period of the semester that seems so critical, yet so weirdly unnecessary (why did we have break, only to come back for two weeks, and have break again?).

Way back in November, a large mysterious sign appeared in Usdan, covered in trash. It appeared to be an advertisement for a fraternity of sorts, namely Delta Lambda Pu or DLP for short. Apart from a single email, the advertisement contained no information about the frat.
