Summer Farming Interest Meetings

Are you still figuring out your summer plans? Do you love vegetables and/or dirt and/or poultry? Have you always dreamt of having your own hands-on agricultural experience? Would you like to be more involved in the Middletown community?

 

 

If you missed this last week, never fear! You can still learn all about spending the summer at Long Lane Farm, at one of two interest meetings. If meeting a lovely bunch of farming folk isn’t attraction enough, there will also be (tbd) SNACKS.

Dates: Wednesday, February 10 and Thursday, February 11
Time: 8:30PM and 12:30PM, respectively
Place: PAC 421 or Usdan 110, respectively

Long Lane Farm is looking for self-motivated, enthusiastic, creative, and hard working applicants for their summer farm positions! Summer farmers will get involved at the farm this semester to prepare. Here is a job description and application.

For funding purposes, applications are due as soon as possible, hopefully by this Friday, February 5! The application or other questions should be sent to weslonglanefarm[at]gmail[dot]com.

Recycled Art Competition

Sustainability guru Kate Weiner ’15 wants you to turn trash into rad art:

Got toilet paper rolls?recycled art
Milk cartons? Egg cartons?
Kumbucha bottles?!

Turn your old recyclables into beautiful works of art at the WesSustainability’s first Recycled Art Competition. This event, in conjunction with the Office of Sustainability and the College of the Environment, will be one of the first Earth- related events of Earth Week. At our table by the Wesleyan Farmer’s Market, you will have the opportunity to build sculptures and costumes out of recycled materials. Building tools will be provided, so all you need to bring is your creativity! Finished pieces will be displayed around campus.

We encourage RA’s and HM’s to participate in the competition as a hall/house program.

Though we will provide some collected recyclables, we could always use more. Feel free to save recyclables throughout the week and bring them to the event.

Farmer’s Market Meeting

Then join us for the first Farmer’s Market club meeting of the semester next Monday at the lovely Sophie Duncan’s house on 265 Pine! We will discuss our plans for the semester and eat snacks.

Our normal vendors will be there selling produce, bread, spices and
more!

Farmers Market Tomorrow

Our second farmers market of the year is tomorrow (Wednesday)! The weather is going to be beautiful, so make sure you soak up that sunshine with a delicious locally-grown apple, just-brewed cup of coffee, or hot-from-the-oven bread or pastry. Don’t forget to bring cash as most of our vendors do not accept debit or credit (and none accept WesCards). We will also be selling super sexy Farmers Market tank tops for $5.
