Final exams adjusted; library, housing changes

Wednesday’s tragedy has led the administration to implement several changes regarding final exams, library hours, and the closure of student housing.

According to President Roth, “Provost Joseph Bruno sent an email to faculty describing changes to our normal exam schedule and asking for great flexibility from our professors.” Exams that had been scheduled for Monday, May 11 will be able to be made up on Friday, May 15. Bruno also called on faculty to “honor any requests from students seeking extra preparation time for any scheduled examination.” In addition, Bruno has asked faculty to “accommodate […] students in whatever ways you can.”

Furthermore, faculty have been urged to “grant all reasonable requests for grades of Incomplete so as to allow students to finish their final examinations or papers over the summer.” Because this has implications for graduating seniors, Bruno has “proposed to reinstate, for this year only, the practice of allowing graduation upon completion.”

Roth encourages any student having trouble with hir exam schedule to get in touch with hir class dean immediately.

The libraries, which had been closed due to security concerns, have reopened. According to University Librarian Barbara Jones, Art Library, SciLi, and Olin will be open for their normal hours over the weekend. In addition, library staff will work extra hours this weekend to help students with their assignments. Further changes to the library schedule are to be announced, in order to deal with next week’s lengthening of the final exam period.

Finally, due to the extended exam period, ResLife has adjusted the deadline for students to move out of their residences. Students are now allowed to stay in their residences, without special approval, until noon on Saturday, May 16.
