Flora & Fauna, those guys who’ll be Foss Chilling later this week, have made the timely decision to release a new single! Astute listeners will recognize “Want U 2 No” (with a slightly alternative spelling) from Battle of the Bands or 2010’s Young Rivals EP (which I need to brush up on before the big gig Thursday). From the band:
Flora & Fauna (Matt Bernstein ’11, Charlie Ellis ’13, Gabe Gordon ’11, Adam Gunther ’11 and Casey Baird) released a double A-side single today! Here it is.
The single is comprised of a song off our last EP and a brand new track! We want to share some of the new material we’ll be playing, and we also want to give people who may not have heard us a chance to check out our band in advance of Spring Fling. We are excited to be opening up the show at 1 pm and invite everyone to come out early and party w/ us yeaaaaahhhhhh.

Major congrats to Wes band Flora & Fauna, whose sharp, high-energy brand of tight, guitar-driven dance-punk blew away Eclectic’s Battle of the Bands last night and landed the band a well-deserved gig opening for Ghostface/Reakwon, Walkmen, and Wavves next month. Runners-up Apache Kid, Treasure Island, Yeoman’s Omen, and The Japanese (whoooah, “Chase Sequence”) all put up very solid fights. (The Taste declined to perform.)
Flora & Fauna has been kicking it (and regularly appearing at Eclectic and other venues on campus) since way back in ’08; current band members include Adam Gunther ’11, Matt Bernstein ’11, Gabe Gordon ’11, Charlie Ellis ’13, and Casey Baird. For more about the band, click here or here or here. For images from their set last night, look below.
Off to New York for break? Looking for fun things to do there? Check out Wesleyan’s own Flora & Fauna on the road! Perhaps you caught them headlining Awesomefest the other weekend? Get Wes away from Wes!

Portland-based experimental pop group Au will be at Wes tomorrow night, with Wes acts Belly Boat and Flora and Fauna opening. From AuralWes:
Au — pronounced, quite diplomatically, however you’d like it to be pronounced — are Portland multi-instrumentalist Luke Wyland and a revolving roster of friends and collaborators. Their music swerves between ecstatic pop blends and minimalist-driven experimental compositions reminiscent of Steve Reich and Brian Eno.
…Joining Au are Wesleyan darlings BELLY BOAT, those ever-elusive Santa Cruz transplants; sweet fawns with hair of flax, fingertips of feather — Belly Boat are like a jug of plum wine, a kiss on the lips, and a fart in the bed, all at the same time. Featuring Silvie Deutsch ’09 on piano and her BFF Zoe Latta on accordion, and you with your hands in your lap, sweatin’ em hard.
Opening the evening are newly-formed FLORA AND FAUNA, the project of sophomores Adam Gunther and Matt Bernstein. At points dreamy, driving, and droning (in the right way, guys), Flora and Fauna are masters of the loop, commanders of the cowbell, papas of the pedal — putting us in very good hands. And I am officially retiring any and all use of alliteration.
