The talented Yousry Benayoun ’11, whom I have since forgiven for totally showing me up at last year’s Earth House-hosted Zimmermania festival, sends in info about a music video he made for one of his original songs over the summer:
My name’s Yousry Benayoun, I’m a senior music major at Wesleyan this year, and I made a music video over the summer to one of my original songs. The song is titled “Disco Sunshine” and I wrote it at Wesleyan last fall.
Come to the Contra Dance! Contra dancing is an energetic folk dance and a great way to meet new people. Beginners are absolutely welcome. There will be live music and snacks provided. For more info, email wescontradance(at)gmail(dot)com.
Finals alter our priorities. That’s why we post things last-minute…
Green Street Art Center’s Sunday Salon Series will be featuring “Folk Rock & More with The Remainders” today… so go hear some music, and bring your mother!
Everyone says that music and numbers are related, but The Remainders bring the proof! Wesleyan’s Vice President for Finance and Administration John Meerts (guitar, blues harp, vocals) is joined by Green Street teaching artist Joanne Agostinelli (vocals, guitar) and Joe Paolillo (bass) for an afternoon of acoustic folk rock. They will perform a set of tunes by Bonnie Raitt, Allison Krauss, Bob Dylan and many others. Afterward, there will be a short Q & A.
Date: Today, May 11 Time: 2:00 – 4:00 PM Location: Green Street Arts Center Cost: $5 ($3 members, seniors, and students. Buy one ticket, and bring your mother for free!)
Like old-timey folk jams? Come hear two fantastic performers, Helen Russell and David Lutken, play on the porch of ADP and talk about the presence of folk music in society today.
Helen and David both hail from the 4-star-awarded Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit of 2007, Woody Sez, about the life and music of Woody Guthrie, which leaves the US next week on an international tour. Hear them play some Guthrie and some of their own fun stuff as well.
