We are a new student group that is dedicated to providing education to young girls of economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds in rural India. Learn how you can help establish a Wesleyan-sponsored school and improve the hygiene standards for students and their families.

Impact’s Valentine’s Day Bazaar TOMORROW!

Join Impact and World Micro-Market at Zelnick Pavilion this Friday to check out our products from NGOs and Free Trade Organizations around the world. Everything is inexpensive, chic, and goes to a good cause! Buy something for your partner or friend, or treat yourself!

SHOFCO and Brighter Dawns will also be in attendance, selling items from Kenya and Bangladesh respectively, along with some other Valentine’s Day goodies.

Products range from 5-25$, and there will be homemade cookies, fudge, and cupcakes for sale!  Make sure to BRING CASH!

Making Money While Doing Good

Come hear Kristin Kim, founder of Sansori, a global education initiative where students gain tools for financial, organizational, and inner sustainability, and launch social enterprises.

Kristin Kim was president of AllLearn, an online educational venture among Oxford, Stanford, and Yale Universities, that served over 11,000 students from over 75 countries. As Director for New Initiatives for Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, she was instrumental in developing the Women’s Leadership Board. She also practiced law at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s New York and London offices, and specialized in international capital market transactions.

Kristin received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her A.B. from Bryn Mawr College, cum laude, in Chinese Philosophy. She currently serves on the Board of RAIT Investment Trust (NYSE: RAS). She has also served on the Board of Trustees of Bryn Mawr College and many other non-profit boards.

This semester we will be talking to student social entrepreneurs and leaders of social venture organizations. We will be also attending conference in the area to hear the ideas of innovators in this rapidly evolving field. If you want to attend the Harvard Business School Social Enterprise Conference or the Global Health & Innovation Conference at Yale, this meeting is a must!

Youth Social Entrepreneurship: Ashoka Fellow Kethaki Nair ’09
Come hear Wes alum Kethaki Nair ’09 talk about her experience working at Ashoka’s Youth Venture as National Fellowship Associate. Operating in 17 countries, Youth Venture inspires and invests in young people to create sustainable Ventures that have a positive impact in their community.

Kethaki helps provide post-launch support to the youth within the network, connecting them to opportunities and resources that support their and their ventures’ success.
On Thursday, Kethaki will be helping us understand Ashoka and organizations like it, explaining some of the buzz words and key concepts, and letting us know how we can get involved with similar projects!

Partnership in Fair Trade: Mercado Global’s Asia Neupane ’09
Mercado Global is a nonprofit whose distinctive Fair Trade collections demonstrate the power of partnership to change the world, one purchase at a time. Each Mercado collection starts with a journey to the highlands of Guatemala, where designers partner with indigenous women artisans to develop unique creations that fuse exceptional Mayan craftsmanship with modern design. Their model helps mothers in Mercado’s partner communities break the cycle of poverty and send their children to school.
