Latin American Food Festival

Hannah Lewis ’13 invites you to Spend It At Beckham:

Come join the Spanish Major’s Committee, the Latin American Studies Major’s Committee, and Ajùa Campos for Wesleyan’s first annual Latin American Food Festival in Beckham Hall this Sunday, Cinco de Mayo from 4-6pm!

Cost is $3 a plate, and all proceeds go to the New Horizons Domestic Violence Shelter.

It’s going to be a great time, with a lot of delicious food! Over 25 students and staff will be sharing their Latin American dishes. Empanadas, tamales and tres leches cake, oh my!

Nicaraguan activist to speak on injustice

Activist Gloria Alba Andino Lopez will be giving a lecture entitled “DR-CAFTA and the Roots of Migration: How Free Trade Agreements Hurt the Environment, Workers, and You”:

The Nagarote-Wesleyan Partnership is bringing Gloria Alba Andino Lopez to campus to talk about firsthand knowledge of how unjust policies affect communities south of the U.S. border. Ms. Lopez is a community leader and activist from El Regadío, Estelí, Nicaragua. For over twenty years, she has represented organized resistance against the detrimental impacts of neoliberal economic policies that damage small farming communities.

The talk is cosponsored by Wesleyan World Wednesdays and the Latin American Studies Department.
