WESU Show Seeks Budding Campus Live Acts

Radio is the internet of the future! Radio is the internet of the future! Critically acclaimed WESU board member Mickey Capper ’13 wants to know if you’ve been making music with the Fountain Backyard skunk:

Do you make music by yourself? Do you make music with your friends? Do you make music with the woodland animals of the Fountain backyards?

If so, WESU’s Wild Wild Live (Fridays 5:05-6 pm) wants you and your musical collaborators to come in and play LIVE on the RADIO (88.1 Middletown/wesufm.org for a live web stream). This will make you famous. Also, your performance will likely be available in podcast format. Interested artists should send a sample of material, an estimate for how much time they would like to play/interview for and a list of preferable Friday afternoons to play to MCApper(at)wesleyan(dot)edu.

IN 45 MINUTES: Sinners At Dinner! or One Night Food Affair

Piss drunk and looking for trouble, I logged on to facebook, looking for an Internet fight. When I made it clear to Ala Faller ’12 that this was my territory and she could pry my keyboard from my cold dead hands, she linked me to a page with the words below:

Desperate for good food, music, and an all expenses paid trip to Italy? Willing to settle for 2 of 3? Then come to Psi U this Wednesday for our 2nd DINNER AND A SHOW of the semester! Featuring the beautiful vocal stylings of Wesleyan’s own Cardinal Sinners, the music aspect is sure to provide the perfect early Wednesday evening entertainment. The Chique Chaque eating service (running since 1836) provides a great alternative to the monotonous Weswings specials and endless Summerfields burritos that have come to define your boring Wesleyan eating experience. Best part? Only 10 points!
You cant miss this event.
No excuses will be accepted.

Date: Today, April Today
Time: 7 PM
Place: Chique Chaque (remember last time?)
Cost: it feels weird actually typing something here 10 points
Phasebook: Set to stun

Grooms // Slothbear // Strange Shapes

 From Rachel Pincus ’13:

GROOMS: “Grooms’ 2009 debut, Rejoicer… recalls the shambling rawness of early Modest Mouse; for the follow-up, Prom, Grooms dive headlong into the sweeping erotic confusion that permeated the dreamier sphere of 90s alt-rock.” –Pitchfork

SLOTHBEAR: “A Slothbear is what.. you get when you mix some mammals and paint in Staten Island which forms the release they call Cant[e]r On…  This release is a wonderful dark trip of texture, mirrors and classic indie guitar maneuvers. .” – Review Stalker

STRANGE SHAPES: “Strange Shapes is a band from Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood. Formed in early 2009, the group has spent the last year assembling their style – twangy asymmetric power-pop.” –Vanity Imprint

Date:   Saturday, Dec. 3
Time:   9:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Place:  Earth House

Tomorrow: White Fence, Grass Widow, The Appledaughters @ Eclectic

APPLE WHITE WIDOW DAUGHTERS TOMORROW (THURSDAY) NIGHT ECLECTIC LAST CHANCE LIVE MUSIC FALL BREAK CHELSIE GREEN ’14:

The last show before break. Doors at 8:30, show at 9.

White Fence: You’ll probably wonder if you went back to the 1960s. White Fence will give you semi-deranged and distorted psychedelic garage rock that is definitely influenced by that decade. Tim Presley and his touring band work together to create something that is not really like that of the present. No obvious bleep bloops, just some good ol’ rock n roll, ya know?… With some strange sensibilities. Sometimes.

Grass Widow:Grass Widow is an all-girl band comprised of three members who share vocal duties, and individually play guitar, bass, and drums. With these instruments, they create lo-fi post-punk with ethereal vocal harmonies. If you liked Wild Flag (or missed them), you’ll probably want to come to this. Or even more if you wish Dum Dum Girls or Vivian Girls were a little more melodic–here’s your band.

The Appledaughters: Opening the show will be Wesleyan’s own Appledaughters, made up of Sam Long ’12 and Howe Pearson ’12, bringing their unique rock/folk/electronic blend. How do I even describe this? Listen to them, it’s pleasant.

ContraDance Dinner/Party, also Swing&Blues After-Party TONIGHT!

There was just no way I could have made the header of this post more convoluted. I mean, it’s not Stanley Kubrick convoluted, but it’s the kind of convoluted that if read with a hangover would trigger a gag reflex, which would eventually lead to discharge, which would eventually lead to a banal conversation in Usdan.

Anyway, Anonymous ’25 writes in:

The first contra dance of the year is THIS FRIDAY, 9/23, from 8-11pm, in Beckham Hall!

There will be LIVE MUSIC by Rebecca McCallum, Emily Troll ’10, Mary Cay Brass, and Roger Kahle, and calling by Adina Gordon.

Every dance will be taught, so if you’re a total beginner, there’s nothing to worry about!
