LIVEBLOG: Zach is Back! (And Hermes is Teaching!)

Ever since Lily Herman ’16 (aka hermes) announced that she would be teaching a course called “It’s a Mess”: An Academic and Practical Look at Digital Media in the Late 2010s this fall, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the course’s treatment of our very own digital media of the late 2010s (and earlier): Wesleying.org!

Tonight, Zach Schonfeld ’13 (aka Zach) is guest-lecturing for Lily’s class on the topic “The Role of Campus Media,” and in typical Wesleying fashion, we’ll be liveblogging it! Read below the jump for a window into the fun!

LIVEBLOG: Usdan Thanksgiving

Get ready for turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and not one but TWO (2) kinds of homemade pie!

That’s right, it’s Usdan Thanksgiving! And Wesleying is liveblogging it! Stay tuned for turkey-induced shenanigans!

LIVEBLOG: Wesleyan Commencement 2017

Today at 10am, the class of 2017 will begin lining up around the Wesleyan graveyard, probably hungover from tent party. Actual commencement will begin at 11am. There will be a livestream of the ceremony featuring commencement speaker Claudia Rankine on the Wesleyan Facebook page and on WesCast.

Congratulations to the class of 2017 and to Wesleying’s graduating seniors Maya, kitab, rachel, and medusa. We’re going to miss y’all!

S0BER, DRUNK, H1GH: Liveblogging the Vice Presidential Debate

The hootenanny of all hootenannies:

vpdebate

Get ready. Drum rolly roll. We are getting ready to kick off our coverage of the 2016 election. Tonight, at 9PM, the most underexposed vice presidential candidates in history will face off on the debate stage in Farmville, Virginia.

We are sober-drunk-high liveblogging the Vice Presidential debate (throwback to the last time this happened). We’re not sure what to expect. We’re not even sure that Tim Kaine and Mike Pence are REAL. But alas, giantepgoynte will be blogging blazed, gettincrunkman will be drunk, and p-safe will be sober.

Here we go:

As we told you just a few short hours ago, Wesleying needs money, and we are selling stickers to help raise it. Because Usdan is the center of our vibrant campus, we are here, braving the crowds, excited to meet some of you in person. (Usdan actually probably is the center of campus at lunch though, right?)

Come say hi and funny, liveblog-worthy things, and read on!

Finals Freakout (A Liveblogging Spectacle)

Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 3.26.18 PM

We’ve all been stagnantly rotting this past weekend with reading period, AKA the final chill. But now, it’s here and there is no doubt that we are trembing with fear – the moment we’ve all been dreading. Finals. And, like everything that happens at Wes, taking things too far is a skill we would all get an A+ on (or a check plus but honestly what the hell is a check plus, god damn HUMANITIES, man. I don’t get that shit.) Anyway, if you burnt through our incredible Procrastination Destination posts, have been shamed by Netflix one too many times (WHAT DO YOU MEAN, “AM I STILL WATCHING?”), and are still trying to not distract yourself by eating copious amount of Weshop desserts, then I’ve got the perfect solution for you!

A Very Usdan Thanksgiving Liveblog

It’s one of the few nights of the year where you’ll see more than the entire freshmen class in Usdan: It’s USDAN THANKSGIVING. And to celebrate the joyous occasion where all of Usdan food is actually really, really good, we’re liveblogging the festivities. And you know, nothing says “enjoying company over a great meal” more than a bunch of internet nerds sitting on their computers together.

Grab your tofurkey and read the feed after the jump.

Wesleyan University Commencement 2015 [Liveblog]

Rather than halfheartedly trying to quote lyrics from “In the Heights” or some other thing written by this year’s commencement speaker and honorary degree recipient Lin-Manuel Miranda ’02, we’ll just skip ahead to: “Hey y’all, good morning!” It’s the 183rd Commencement at Wesleyan University, and we’re outdoors at Denison Terrace/Andrus Field/Foss Hill live-blogging all the speeches, processions, and every single name read (okay, none of the names) at today’s graduation ceremony.

Along with Miranda, Spellman College president Beverly Daniel Tatum ’75 and Goodspeed Musicals executive director Michael P. Price are receiving honorary degrees. Things should be getting started around 11 a.m.

Congratulations to the Class of 2015, and even more congratulations to all the many Wesleying editors and contributors who are graduating as well! You can watch a livestream of the ceremony here

Update: You read all the speeches and watch Miranda’s address below. And here’s the official Wesleyan newsletter article on the event.
