The Mixolydians are having auditions!
The Mixolydians are Wesleyan’s student-run chamber choir, singing all
types of choral music from across time and space, whether it’s Top 40
hits from the Early Modern period or the hottest contemporary tracks
from your favorite classical mixtape.
No experience necessary, just come with a short song prepared and be
ready to do some light sight-reading.
Date: Tuesday, September 8th and Wednesday, September 9th
Time: 7:00 PM-9:00 PM
Place: PAC 002
An invitation courtesy of CFA staffer Andrew Chatfield:
Graduate music student Dina Maccabee presents new vocal pieces exploring the properties of the voice in dialogue with its many mediated reproductions, featuring student vocal group The Mixolydians. Alongside her own work, Ms. Maccabee will perform late twentieth-century pieces that challenge conventional narrative orientations of the voice. The significant influences of music by Meredith Monk, Alvin Lucier, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, and Joan La Barbara are juxtaposed with homages to Mieskuoro Huutajat, the Finnish men’s shouting choir, early work by John Cage, and Meredith Willson’s musical theater innovations.
Date: Tuesday, November 11
Place: World Music Hall (CFA)

- Thursday January 31st: 7-9 pm

Want to kick ass on your finals? Studies show that babies who listen to classical music may be smarter, fatter, and more awesome than babies that don’t. Don’t you want to be one of those babies?
Take a break during reading week to come hear the Mixes sing in their final concert of the year! We’ve got a great assortment of music this semester, including, (just to give you a little taste) a Bosnian folk song, some jazz, vespers, and even a little James Taylor.
Date: Sunday, May 13
Time: 3 pm
Place: Memorial Chapel
So you’ve been bombarded by people asking you to audition for their a cappella groups. I’m here to ask you to audition for Wesleyan’s only student run chamber choir. If you sang classical, renaissance, gospel or world music in high school (or any other types of choral music that I missed) then this is the group for you!
Auditions will be held in the Chapel Basement:
tomorrow, Thursday Sept. 8 – 4:30-6, and
Friday Sept. 9 – 4-5.
Bring a short solo and some smiles and leave the rest to us.
