From Kate Weiner ’15:
Inspired by the practices of some of the creative environmental artists that I met with during my “Visualizing the Environment” grant, my final exhibit will be a short and sweet interactive field guide to Wesleyan’s campus. We will start at 2 p.m. in the CFA courtyard with a mindfulness exercise guided by Katie McLaughlin before gravitating to the North College Lawn for a movement experience led by Jacob Musinsky and Chloe Jones. Afterwards, we will make our way to Earth House for a free meal to check out the environmental art show. This field guide will use a collaborative approach to cultivating experiences within Wesleyan’s shared spaces. Hope you can come and enjoy!
Date: Saturday, April 25th
Place: CFA Courtyard
Those brilliant senior dance majors and the CFA invite you:
Senior choreographers present a collection of new works as the culminating project of the dance major.
Date: Thursday, April 3rd– Saturday, April 5th
Place: Patricelli ’92 Theater
Cost: $4 for Wesleyan students, $5 for all others
If you walked past the display case next to the ATM side of Usdan today during lunchtime, you couldn’t miss these dancers writhing in slow motion, breaking down the barrier between real space and performance space in the campus center.
They’re probably still there.
[EDIT] More info (and video footage of the movement explorers) at the Blargus:
The movement installation is being put on by the CCR Task Force, and will be happening from 10 am – 6 pm until Saturday. Just in time for Homecoming/Family weekend! Have fun explaining this to your parents, frosh.
If you’re interested in signing up for a 2-hour shift in the display case, contact Mark McCloughan ’10 at mmccloughan@wes.
If you’ve been disappointed with this semester’s music offerings, cheer up because the show of the year has just been announced. A little bird told me that Yeasayer, the Postelles and Movement will be coming to Beckham Hall on November 12th.
Yeasayer is a band you don’t want to miss. They have a tight, world music influenced sound (guys — go to Aural Wes for legit write-ups) that you can actually dance to (or sway awkwardly, your call). I saw them open two years ago for the National and this summer in New York, and it was one of the best shows I’ve seen. If you don’t trust me, I will paraphrase some of the attendees at this summer’s show: “Dude, this shit was worth the Metro North!” Yeasayer is loved by hipsters and Long Island bros alike – get pumped. Also their new tunes are pretty incredible. Yeasayer will be dropping a new album in a couple months, and going on tour (they’re playing New Haven 2 days later for twice the price). Wes, get ahead of the buzz.
The Postelles and Movement you may remember from their fantastic show at Eclectic last year. Tickets for the show will be on sale next week for $8. More info to come.
