Not to strike excessive fear into the hearts of students living at the edges of campus, but there was an attempted mugging at gunpoint on Pearl Street last night. From this morning’s P-Safe alert:
Public Safety would like to inform the community that on Friday 12/5/08 at approximately 1:00am a student was approached outside their residence on Pearl St by an individual who began asking the student questions about where they lived and what was in his pockets. The individual then attempted to strike the student and a scuffle ensued.
The subject got to his feet and pointed a handgun at the student and demanded they empty their pockets. A vehicle then approached the area and the subject fled. The student went to a friend’s house and later called Middletown Police. The student did not receive any injuries.
It should go without saying – Wesleyan is physically not a bubble. Be vigilant, avoid walking alone at night if you can, and if you do, at least be aware of the possibility of danger.
Walk in groups and travel along well-lit paths, they say. And be aware of your surroundings, since two Wesleyan students have been mugged in the past 24 hours.
… on Monday 3/31/08 at approximately 10:45 PM a male student was near Dennison Terrace when he was approached by two individuals. As they passed him one of the individuals punched him knocking him to the ground. The individuals then demanded his backpack which they took and fled toward High St. The student did not suffer any injuries.
The first suspect was described as an African-American male, approximately 6′ 1″ black hooded sweatshirt, large build, the second suspect was described as a Caucasian or Hispanic male, approximately 5′ 9″ with a tan or gold hooded sweatshirt.
The method and description of the suspects sounds creepily similar to the mugging that occurred not 24 hours earlier:
… on Monday 3/31/08 at approximately 1:15 AM a male student was walking on William St. near High St. when he was approached by two individuals. As they passed him one of the individuals punched him knocking him to the ground. The individual then held him to the ground and demanded his wallet. The student told the individual that his wallet was in his backpack which they took after they dumped out books from it. The individuals then fled north on High St. The student received minor injuries and declined medical assistance.
The first suspect was described as an African-American male, approximately 5’ 10”, white sweatshirt, large build, in his mid 20’s, the second suspect was described as a Caucasian male, approximately 5’ 6” with a black hooded sweatshirt, thin build, in his mid 20’s.
Oh, and where/what is Dennison Terrace?
