From Eric Lopez ’15:

RPMU Presents Sylvan Esso & kaleidoscope

Sylvan Esso looks to put on the first big show for WestCo Cafe this coming Friday with their dancing beats and riveting vocals. Sylvan Esso is a collaboration between vocalist Amelia Meath and electronic musician Nick Sanborn. Meath’s powerful voice is front and center, unjoined by fellow harmonizers as it is in her folk group, Mountain Man. Sanborn, who plays bass in the genre-destroying Megafaun, creates intricate, pulsing grooves for Meath’s voice to inhabit. check out their soundcloud.

kaleidoscope is Keenan Burgess ’16 and one of the best beat makers on campus. His newest song “Aurora” is filled with floating vocals and an ethereal sensation all over it. Burgess played an opening set last semester for Sweater Beats and the Clam Casino-esque sounds played beautifully there. You can check out the rest of his sounds on his Soundcloud page, which includes a great rework of Cassie’s “All My Love”, and grab some older tracks off his Bandcamp page.

Set Times to be announced on Facebook.

Off Tops Audition/Jam

From Isaac Butler-Brown ’17:

Any and all musicians, no matter what you play (including vocal chords), if you are interested in playing hip-hop in a live band context, hit me! (510) 277-2788. My friend and MC Miles Mcleod is also here at Wes with me, and we have about an album’s worth of songs like and not like the one on this post. Facility on your instrument would be great, but regardless of how good you are or how good you think your instrument will sound in a hip hop setting, call me!

WesRave 2013

From Katya Botwinick ’13:

It’s baaaaaaaack.

Last year 300-400 weskids came out one fateful night to dance in a silent rave. It was massive. So we’re going to do it again, for no other reason but to celebrate the end of the year and enjoy a huge dance party.

The concept of a silent rave is fairly simple. One only needs a pair of headphones and an mp3 player of sorts. Tonight we will publicly post a playlist based on students’ suggestions (through dropbox or other platforms) that anyone can download for free. Then on Friday May 10th, we will congregate on the grassy steps behind Olin and press play together at 11:15pm sharp (come at 11 if you want to get your hands on some glowsticks, we have 900 for the taking). The playlist will be one file so if you get out of synch or arrive late, 11:15 is the official start time and you can play the file at whatever minute we are on. It sounds a little funky, but it enables us to have a giant dance party outside that won’t attract noise complaints–and we can move around campus. So break out your tutus, capes, onesies, beads, and crazy outfits ((((KEEP WES WEIRD))))

Fletcher C. Johnson & Featherwood Bee @ WestCo Cafe

From the impeccably dressed Ethan Hill ’16:

After bringing you such groovin’ shows as Prince Rama and Mac Demarco, Aural Wes is excited to present yet another evening of sweet rock n’ roll goodness with Fletcher C. Johnson and his band. The Brooklyn pop virtuoso is bringing his catchy jamz to the WestCo Café this Thursday along with Featherwood Bee, who I’m sure you all know and love. Be prepared to get down and boogaloo to some of the prettiest twangy pop tunes you’ll ever know.
