Each week at meeting we will begin putting a list of outings together for the week, which will be sent out later that week to the listserv, for anyone to hop on! Come hit the trails with us ;)

Place: Outhouse (132 High Street)
The lovely Katie McLaughlin ’15 is keeping you in mind. Another memo:
Wesleyan’s month of mindfulness is kicking off its first FREE class this Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30 PM. There will also be a hike this Sunday February 9 (2-5 PM) with the outing club that will entail about an hour of hiking followed by journaling with tea and cocoa in outhouse. Please email Katie at kmclaughlin(at)wesleyan(dot)edu if you are interested in going on the hike and let her know if you have access to a car.
Here is some info about the class on Wednesday:
You may have many questions about meditation. What is it? How do I do it? There are many different kinds of meditation out there. Where do I start? How do I sustain a practice in this crazy, busy world? Why even bother? What is all the hype about “Mindfulness?”
Thirty years of scientific research has proven that people who regularly practice mindfulness experience decreased stress and anxiety, better focus and concentration, increased empathy and understanding of others, increased sense of calm, and skillful responses to difficult emotions. Come learn the basic practice of mindfulness meditation and walking meditation. Come with curiosity, compassion and wonder. Dress comfortably and be prepared simply to try your best.

Want a little more snow and ice in your life? This week’s meeting (aka today) is special because at 9pm, there’s gonna be a sweet slideshow by Professor Brian Glenn ’91 about his epic climb up Mt. Denali!
From May 22 to June 10, 2009, Prof. Brian J. Glenn ’91 climbed Mt. Denali (20,320ft) in Alaska—wearing a Wesleyan hat no less!

Ever wonder about what’s on the other side of the Bubble? Spent semester(s) in Connecticut without exploring the surrounding area at all? It’s time to change all that and the Outing Club is here to help! All levels of experience in outdoor activities welcome.
Whether it’s a canoe paddle ’round Millers Pond, a stroll up to the top of Mt. Higby (above), a rock climbing adventure or just generally goofing off outdoors, we do it all. And we’re always open to new ideas! So gather up your friends or come alone to the first meeting of the semester on Tuesday, February 7 at 10 pm. As always, the meeting will be held in the cozy Outhouse living room (132 High Street, just a few houses down from WesWings). If you can’t make it to this one though, no worries! We’ll be having meetings EVERY TUESDAY at 10pm; newcomers always welcome. So stop on by, hang out, talk about places you want to go and things you want to do, drink hot cocoa, play some games, meet new people and bemoan the current status of snow in Connecticut (i.e. seriously lacking). Questions, comments, concerns, suggestions, want to be on our mailing list or lead your own outing? Email wesoutingclub(at)gmail(dot)com.
Date: Tuesday, February 7
Time: 10 PM – 11 PM

Is this beautiful weather making you want to spend every waking moment outside? Come to Outhouse (132 High) on Wednesday (the 12th!) at 10pm and learn how you can make this dream a reality. We’ll discuss outings for this upcoming weekend as well as some UBER-AWESOME-SUPER-DUPER-EXCITING Fall Break plans.
Also coming up: FALL FEST!! Hang out in Outhouse’s awesome backyard on Saturday afternoon (1-4pm) and do all sorts of fall-y (and just generally fun) activities and eat all sorts of fall-y foods. There will be pumpkins. There will be music. There will be donuts. There will be apple-bobbing. And there will be slug-wrestling (aka attacking your friends in sleeping bags). Moral of the story: it’ll be fun.
P.S. If you’re interested in an environmental job for after your time at Wes, Green Corps will be having an information session in Usdan 108 on Thursday, October 13 from 7-8. Check it out! www.greencorps.org
Calling all people who love the outdoors! Or love people that love the outdoors! Or even just have a vague affinity for the outdoors! This includes, but is not limited to, activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, climbing (of the rock and tree varieties), sitting around campfires and lounging in hammocks.
The Wesleyan Outing Club will have it’s first meeting of the year this WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 14, at 9pm. The meeting will be held at Outhouse (yes, like the bathroom), which is located at 132 High Street – across from the Butts parking lot, and look for the moon on the door! Find out more than you ever wanted to know about the club – who we are, what we do, what’s hidden in our attic and where we like to catch alligators in the Connecticut River.
We normally have meetings every other Wednesday at 10pm, so if you can’t make it this time around, there is always another chance! However, this meeting will have ice cream… so it’s a probably a good one to come to.
Come by Outhouse tonight to discuss ways to get outdoors this weekend (considering the weather will be absolutely phenomenal)! Come by if you want to talk about snowshoeing, snowboarding, snowpocalypse-survival strategies, etc.
Where: Outhouse (132 High St.)
When: 10 PM tonight
