Over-Capacity: Wesleyan’s Changing Party Scene

IMG_1199

On a typical weekend night, a Wes student can find themselves at a WestCo pregame, an Earth house concert, a DKE dance party, and the fountain backyards. But since the beginning of this school year, there have been fewer parties at Wesleyan. As a disgruntled student looking to have a good time, I set out to find the reason. I interviewed many Wesleyan students, administrators, Psafe officers, and fire safety officials and their stories revealed a complex picture. Essentially, there is a declining number of parties because of new maximum capacity rules in wood frame houses, a smaller fraternity presence, and program houses that are unable to fill the party void.

“______ Fall Back”: On Concert Culture, Moshing and (Un)Safe Spaces

Almost three years ago exactly, I showed up to my first Eclectic concert, as a wide-eyed, naive pre-frosh, a total stranger to the “college music scene.” There was loud, thrashy music coming from the ballroom, where a small crowd was gathered. While dancing wildly around with all these strange older cool college kids, I thought to myself, “Wow! I am actually doing this. I am a skinny, lanky dude moshing! And it feels great! And I should totally come here and do this more!” And the rest was, as they say, history.

Wesleyan Media Blow-Up: Because Not All Publicity Is Good Publicity

seniors

Watch out, Wesleyan, because according to lots and lots (and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots) of different media outlets, we’re at it again. “What’s wrong with Wesleyan?” ask Business Insider’s Ashley Lutz and Abby Rogers. I’ll do my best to explain that here in this rundown of media coverage regarding the weekend’s debauchery.

Of course, this question could be answered fairly quickly by any number of blogosphere navigators, but perhaps best by Daily Caller commenter “WHATTHEBLANK,” who characterized us as “leftists [who will] just get older and go to occupy protests and still drink smoke weed and act stupid.”

So, as one of those overprivileged WASPs that everyone is talking about, who better to give you your cheat sheet to the media coverage that Wesleyan is getting for our little tryst with the T-Rex?
