Volunteer for Unspeakable Acts and Know The Line

From Tanya Purdy, Director of WesWell:

Unspeakable Acts and Know the Line is a series of skits addressing sexual assault, relationship violence and alcohol issues that WesWELL sponsors during New Student Orientation. This peer theatre piece was first performed at Wesleyan in 2002. The performance is a powerful introduction to sexual violence and alcohol use on campus and provides a starting point for further discussion for these difficult but important topics. Each year, the performers have put their own unique stamp on the piece(s) they perform, to make changes that help the audience understand the issues more clearly, and even add new skits.

Feel Good, Look Good!

From Willa Beckman ’15:

Come view fourteen international short films that address issues with body image and the media. Runtime is approximately 80 minutes. Then stay after the films for an open discussion with Ruth Striegel. Dinner will be provided!

This event is hosted by the PHAs through Feel Good, Look Good. Our aim is to raise awareness about society and the media’s influence on beauty ideals and its promotion of unrealistic and unhealthy body image. We hope to redefine beauty as more than physical appearance and promote lasting self-esteem and confidence.

  • Date: Wednesday, March 7th (Tomorrow)
  • Time: 7:30PM-10:00PM
  • Place: Shanklin 107

Sleep?

Finals got you stressing? Not sleeping as much as you need to? Seriously debating the pro’s/con’s of directly injecting caffeine into your bloodstream? Well, you might want to reconsider that 5th cup of coffee after reading these lovely sleep tidbits sent in by our amazing and dedicated Peer Health Advocates.

For more advice and information on sleep, stop by WesWell or set up an appointment with a Health Educator at WesWell.

Sleep Fun Facts:

  1. Most adults need between 7.5 and 9 hours of sleep per night – typically we should feel wide-awake and energetic all day without a significant midday drop in alertness.
  2. Light is the most powerful cue affecting sleep: darkness triggers the release of melatonin, a hormone that brings on sleep.
  3. It takes one hour of sleep to pay for every two hours of wakefulness.
  4. A well rested person takes 15 to 20 minutes to fall asleep.
  5. Brief naps taken daily are far healthier than sleeping in or taking very long naps on the weekend.

ORCHESTRATING ORGASMS: An OhMegan Production!

OH SNAP OH MEGAN IS COMING BACK.

That’s right! The PHAs present Oh Megan’s Orchestrating Orgasms, a new workshop just for Wesleyan students! Not just is this workshop bound to be absolutely amazing, but Megan will be bringing vibrators and lube for the number of people that RSVP on facebook and show up early to the event! Come out on World AIDS Day to support keeping Wes safe and sexy!

Freud talked to us about the appropriate “types,” pop culture magazines scream from the shelves that we could be having better ones, and many people experience deep guilt in their quest to experience them. Still, what actually ARE orgasms? For something so celebrated, very few individuals can give a straight definition; people are seemingly just supposed to be grateful if they have them!

The simultaneous mystery and ubiquity of “The Big O” has created a fascination with orgasms, but hasn’t provided a perfect answer to the big questions people ask about them. Fortunately, Oh Megan is here to help!

In this captivating workshop, you will learn about the biological, psychological and sociological issues surrounding orgasms. What types of orgasms are there? How can one have more orgasms? Why do they feel so good? Why do some people struggle to have them? With the use of images, participation, videos, and genital models, Orchestrating Orgasms will bring down the house in a perfect symphony.

Date: Thursday, December 1st, 2011
Time: 7PM (although we recommend you show up early!)
Place: Exley 150
