Wesoftball Knocks It Out of the Park

Jill Gately '15 and Susan Pardo '16

Perhaps the title reads a bit cheesy, but how else can you describe a team that went on to sweep Hamilton this past weekend and tie the longest win streak in program history through shining moments like the three-run homer off the bat of Jill Gately ’15 in the second game of the series?

Not surprisingly, given their streak, Wesleyan Softball executed some other pretty impressive achievements throughout their current streak, including the honor of NESCAC Player of the Week awarded twice to Allee Beatty13. Though Beatty couldn’t reel in the distinction for the third time in a row and sweep the title from the season’s start, Susan Pardo ’16, one of Wesleyan’s freshest young talents, carried the team to their first receipt of NESCAC Pitcher of the Week this season. With Pardo’s brilliance on the mound, racking up 24 strikeouts and a three-hitter over the weekend, such an accolade seems the first of many in her career.

This afternoon, Wesleyan has a chance to break the longest win streak in program history against Coast Guard at 4:30 p.m. at home, and follows up with a double header this Saturday against Williams at home as well. Though Softball in 40 degree weather has always bewildered me as a southerner, I’d encourage everyone to lend their support to the team as they close in on this historic moment. Speaking of streaks, Beatty, too, looks to continue a streak of her own from the batter’s box, currently standing at 17 consecutive games hitting. More impressive stats and WesPregame’s interview with Allee Beatty ’13, one of Wesleyan Softball’s senior captains for the 2013 season, after the jump!

Next Game: Today (Wednesday, April 3rd)
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Location: Softball Field (adjacent to Freeman)

Exercise your Right to Vote

With Obama’s SOTU address still fresh in our heads, I just thought y’all might enjoy some extra voting before we hit November. Shasha Brown ’13 is up for the Eastern Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week this week, but he needs your help to win. You may have heard that Shasha’s final shot put Wesleyan in the lead over Amherst to win the game with two seconds remaining. But, this ain’t his first rodeo. Shasha also became the fastest Wesleyan men’s basketball player in history to score 1,000 points back in December, in addition to being a general baller off the court. Check out his video below, but don’t forget to VOTE! Voting ends this Thursday at 8 a.m.
