What is Critical University Studies and What Can It Do?

michaelroth2From Sophie Massey ’15:

Join us for a discussion that will begin with a brief presentation by UMass Amherst Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies faculty Abigail Boggs ’02 and students in the Critical University Studies student forum.

Critical University Studies is an interdisciplinary area of study that focuses on applying an analytical, “critical” lens to the university–its politics, histories, and economies. Some focuses of the discipline include: increasing student debt loads, the precarious conditions of academic labor, perpetuation of inequality, student movements, the corporatization of the university, questions of how knowledge is (or should be) created, and institutional branding.

This event is sponsored by the Anthropology, Sociology, American Studies, and Feminist Gender and Sexuality Studies Departments and SALD.

Date: Tuesday, November 4
Time: 4:15-5:45 PM
Place: Usdan 110
