Giving Tuesday

givintuesday

From our dear friend Brian Lee 13 of the Wesleyan Fund:

Today is is Giving Tuesday and a Wesleyan family has offered a challenge to the entire Wesleyan community: Reaching 1,000 gifts from alumni, parents, and students in one day! Once 1,000 or more of us make a gift to Wesleyan (to financial aid, an academic department, or even to an athletic team), Catherine Klema P’13 & David Resnick ’81, P’13 have agreed to establish a $100,000 scholarship for an incoming student next year in honor of this achievement.

The Senior Class Gift Committee will be at Usdan tomorrow from 11 am to 1 pm to help spread the word and to collect gifts. Please urge your friends to drop by because every single gift will count towards this $100,000 challenge! That’s a huge scholarship for an incoming student, folks. Let’s not let this challenge fail!

Senior Night Out SWAG

SWAG #thisiswhy

Daniele Packard ’13 and Grace Zimmerman ’13 write in with a way for members of the Class of 2013 to legally imbibe with their classmates, promote greater access to Wesleyan in support of need blind admissions through scholarship fundraising, and enjoy some good ol’ class camaraderie out in the vibrant Middletown nightlife scene:

As graduation approaches alarmingly fast, it becomes ever more important to cherish your classmates, appreciate Wesleyan for everything it has to offer, and enjoy your dwindling time in Middletown. To this effect, the Senior Gift Committee is hosting our annual Senior Night Out, taking place this Thursday, April 25th! The four restaurants hosting SWAG for the evening are La Boca, Mondo, Iguanas Ranas and The Nest, whom have all generously agreed to offer drink and food specials for all SWAG donors this year.

Not a donor yet?  Don’t worry – there’s still time to make a gift.  Swing by any of our tabling locations this week to make a gift and pick up your wristband, or make a gift online and we’ll put the bracelet in your box. If you’ve already donated, you’ll find your wristband in your mailbox. To receive food and drink discounts you must obtain a SWAG designated wrist band. On behalf of the entire committee, we’d like to remind everyone to treat all of the establishments we visit and people we meet during the night out (and in life) with respect!

More information about drink and food specials, the night’s schedule, and tabling locations where you can pick up a wristband this week before the event!

Date: Thursday, April 25th
Time: 8 p.m. till 1 a.m.
Place: Iguanas Ranas, La Boca, Mondo, The Nest
Suggested Donation: $5

Senior Pass Sale This Week

Hey Class of 2013, remember when you voted the handsome devil David Shor ’13, featured above, as your Class President? This week, he’s writing in to remind you to pick up your Senior Pass and consider making a contribution to SWAG, the Seniors of Wesleyan Annual Gift. Seniors should remember that the Senior Gift contributes to a financial aid scholarship that will be awarded to an incoming Wesleyan freshman next year. The Class of 2013 has a goal of 92% participation and $15,000 raised. Here’s the important info, worded far more coherently than his initial write-up:

Senior events are a tremendous opportunity to enjoy the company of your entire class, from your best friend to your freshman year hallmate who always bumped the best jams. They are a chance to truly enhance the memories of senior year that you will cherish for years to come after graduation. Don’t miss out on these great events. You will regret it. More information about the passes, their sale, and the Senior Gift after the jump.

Design Senior T-Shirt, Win Free Senior Pass

From the Senior Gift Chairs:

Win the GOLDEN TICKET!!

Want a free senior pass?!?! All you have to do is design the winning senior t-shirt design. It’s fantastic that the passes are so much cheaper this year, but do you know what’s even cheaper than $120? FREE.

You can submit a design as an individual or as a house (or as any other group you can think of, as long as it’s 5 people or less). If your design is picked to be the ’09 senior tee, you’ll win the GOLDEN TICKET! Which is to say, you get to go to all the senior cocks for free. Really, you just can’t lose. The only guidelines are that the shirt must say “Wesleyan Fund” and “Class of ’09” somewhere on it. Also, no profanities and nothing too obscene.

Questions? Email Anand at tsv(at)wesleyan(dot)edu or any of the ’09 Senior Gift Chairs: Emily Avener (eavener), Erik Underwood (eunderwood), and Jen Matthews (jmatthews). Submissions are due to tsv(at)wesleyan(dot)edu by 8 AM on Monday the 20th. Good luck!

Wear your seniority on your sleeve

Anand Satchidanandan ’08 writes:

Every year, the Wesleyan Fund makes the senior class a T-shirt in recognition of their senior gift. This year’s “Senior Tee” needs a funky, smart, absolutely senior-esque design that showcases Wes ‘09ers.

Winners of the contest will receive a free Senior Pass courtesy of the Wesleyan Fund! Designs:

  • Must encourage financially supporting Wesleyan
  • Must contain the words “Wesleyan Fund”
  • Can use up to 3 colors on a white background
  • Can use both the front and back of the T-shirt
  • Cannot contain profanity, offensive language, or slurs

Designs are due by October 1 at 4:00 PM. Winners will be selected and informed by mail, and will receive recognition at senior class events in the spring. Please mail/email your name, class year, contact details, and designs to:
