Sex things are great! Ten thousand emails a week are overwhelming! Let’s do more sex things with fewer emails!
Message wbeckman(at)wesleyan(dot)edu to be added to the WeSex listserv and get a weekly email on all sex (and health and queer) things at Wesleyan. Updates from ASHA, the PHAs, the SART Intern, We Speak We Stand, SFCC, Take Back The Night, the Clinic Escorts, Unlocked, and QueerWes will be combined and sent out in one (really just one I promise!) message letting you know all of the things going on during the week, how to get involved, and where to get free condoms and sex toys.
Involved in a sex-related group that isn’t part of WeSex? Email wbeckman(at)wesleyan(dot)edu about your group to get on the list!

Meghan Nayyar ’16 and Unlocked want to know about your sex life:
Unlocked wants to know about your thoughts on sex for our upcoming magazine so take the 2014 Sex Survey!
Date: Now til April 6th
It’s Friday/Valentine’s Day! You know what that means? Time to get that sweet sweet consensual lovin’ on! (Though let’s be fair, it should always be that time). We wanted to take this time to remind everyone about access to protection on campus, so we asked Willa Beckman ’15, who works for WesWell, a few questions:
Students can get condoms for free on campus?? What’s the deal with that?
Yes! Students can get SO MANY CONDOMS FOR FREE ON CAMPUS. We have a whole wall of condoms in the WesWell office at Davison Health Center. Come by and grab some! Also, if you work for reslife, you should come pick up one of our pre-made goodie bags to keep your residents protected all the time!
Tristan Taormino ’93 lecturing on her college book tour. All images c/o Taormino.
The editors of The Village Voice wanted someone to write about sex. Dan Savage’s weekly advice column “Savage Love” was gaining popularity and had outgrown its place in the back of the paper, alongside 900 numbers and ads for escorts. Sex needed a new section.
They convened a meeting. The late Don Forst, editor-in-chief at the time, asked if anyone had a writer in mind. One editor suggested the “Adventure Girl” columnist from the lesbian feminist publication On Our Backs. Was that the same woman who wrote that book on anal sex, another editor asked. A third wanted to know if she used to run her own ‘zine.
All three had in mind the same person: Tristan Taormino ’93, author, feminist pornographer, and now, sex columnist. They brought her into the Village Voice offices.
“They said they had one concern: Is there really that much to write about sex? Can you keep that going for a while?” Taormino said. “And of course, I kept it going for almost a decade.
“My answer then, and proves to be, yes.”
As Taormino has shaped her career, her brand of feminism has promoted realistic views of sex and sexuality by keeping politics and ethics at the forefront of her work. She had to carve her own path, but in doing so, she paved the way for dynamic change.
Tomorrow (Thursday) from 7 – 9 PM in Bennett (long live Fauver) Lounge, Rosy Capron ’14 and Brendan O’Donnell ’14 will be facilitating the final Privilege and Policy at Wesleyan discussions. The topic this week will be sex, gender, and relationships at Wesleyan.
Things that might come up include male-female ratios of faculty and students in different departments, treatment of male vs. female sports teams, gendered spaces (bathrooms, program houses, Greeks) on campus, the queer community, the privileging of males over females in admissions, services provided (or not provided, or costs not covered) at the Health Center for trans* students, treatment of queer students by faculty, staff, and students, sexual assault, and anything else you would like to discuss.
Please join us this evening for the discussion!
Date: Thursday Nov 7
