Spring Faculty Dance Concert—“Shake”

“Shake” is a rambunctious and tender duet born out of a nine-year friendship between Wesleyan Artist in Residence Iddi Saaka and Bates College Associate Professor of Dance Rachel Boggia. The world premiere of their first choreographed work features their shared love of vibratory movement, smooth breath, and cheesy humor; and influences including Ghanaian dance forms, American postmodern dance, fake tap dance, bad jokes, and life experiences.

Just When You Thought the Harlem Shake Was Over

The folks over at WesPregame just produced a video of some of the students from the Wesleyan Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) doing the Harlem Shake with fifth graders from Macdonough Elementary School. This video has remarkable potential to either cheer you up immensely as you’re studying in SciLi or help you celebrate the end of the midterms. Hope you enjoy either way.

Saturday night was a great night, at least for Eclectic, where nothing wrong happened and no idiots decided to pull a fire alarm. First the room was showered by the 80s rock/synth-pop of Dreamhost (Dylan Bostick ’13), who coupled his great music with a great show, adding fans, a strobe, and dancers. Sinkane, led by multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab, who has played in Of Montreal, Caribou, and Yeasayer, took the stage and successfully made me and many others dance furiously to their dub-esque dance music.

Sinkane’s set was full of dance music reminiscent of Fela Kuti, sustaining heavy grooves and thick textures of guitars, synths, and talk boxes piled on top of each other.
