An Interview with Juan Wauters on Songwriting, Home, and His V-Day Show At Art House

131106-beets-juan-wautersQueens-based singer-songwriter Juan Wauters will be performing at Art House tomorrow, February 14, at 10 p.m. The New York Observer recently wrote that he was “one of the most idiosyncratic and inventive songwriters in New York today.” He was born in Uruguay before relocating with his family to the neighborhood of Jackson Heights in Queens, NY, and now considers Queens his home.

On February 4, Wauters released his first solo album, N.A.P. North American Poetry — an album full of good vibes, captivating lyrics, and a sound that you can drown into. In anticipation of his show at Wes tomorrow, Natasha spoke with the artist about his music, his experiences as musician, and about his home.

Come out and audition for Almost, Maine! We’re looking for about six actors, 3 male and 3 female, who will portray multiple characters across the eight vignettes that make up the play. No previous theater experience necessary!

“A whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance. Magical happenings bloom beneath the snowdrifts. ALMOST, MAINE explores the thunderclap of love and the scorched earth that sometimes follows.” -The New York Times

Show Dates:
February 21-23, 8pm, ’92 Theater

Gag Reflex Reading Week Show

Gag Reflex is helping you think positive this reading week:

Join us in Exley for some completely improv-ed comedy, just like your completely improv-ed studying.

The location is ideal: you’ll find us as you walk groggily from Sci-Li to Pi Cafe to grab yourself another chai charger.

But if you can’t make it to the show, here are some survival tips for this coming week and beyond:

-Whatever you’re doing, imagine Michelle Obama is looking at you with encouragement and approval.
-Keep a plastic bag from Broad Street Books in your room at all times. They are non-porous, which makes them ideal for catching vomit and urine.
-Everyone is going to be at their wit’s end, so it’s the perfect time to hit on someone who is much better looking that you.
-Make friends in high places. Like the empire state building. Or westco.

Date: Monday, December 10
Time: 5:00 pm
Place: Exley Lobbey (right outside Pi)
Cost: Free
