Second Stage presents: “The Ash and the Elder”

So we all know Adam and Eve. They chilled out at a garden, fucked up, and then got their asses thrown out. Classic cosmic origin story shtick.

Ever wonder if there were other, maybe better stories? Come watch “The Ash and the Elder” this weekend, a play written by Lila Becker ’12 that shows five creation myths from around the world. Folks interested in religion, anthropology, comparative culture, and crazy ass cosmology stuff should really considering checking this shit out.

It’s also showing on 4/20. And Imma tell you – there’s some pretty trippy shit goin’ on. Bring your grandma. (Btdubs, the show runs under an hour)

Date: Thursday, April 19 – Saturday, April 21
Time: 8pm (Thursday, Friday), 2 & 7pm (Saturday)
Place: ’92 Theater
Cost: Free (pick up tix at box office on day of show)

Balam Acab at Eclectic, tonight

Chelsie Green ’14:

[from the other room]: “warped voices” “simple aesthetic beauty” “samples of liquid” “reverb/echo” “loaded with emotion” “shrouded in darkness” “a vibe that’s vaguely creepy but stops short of melancholic” “there’s a well-crafted build, then the beat drops” “sounds dripping-wet from start to finish, with samples of splashing and sloshing swishing throughout” “slow tempos, with percussion used sparingly to create stretched-out breakbeats that provide a loose skeleton for the rest of his reverb-laden sounds to dance around”

NICHOLAS MSALL – This is his first show at Wes, give this lil freshman a chance. Electronic abstract beats to make your whole body bump! Add some bass, wonky tempos, and distorted samplin’ for full effect. Feed your brains with this craziness! Fuck money just kick it.

Date:   Nov. 5 – Nov. 6
Time:   9:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Place:  Eclectic

Failures, Total Abuse, Ripshit at WestCo Cafe

Hardcore/punk show tonight at WestCo Cafe, with Failures, Total Abuse, and Ripshit. From Aural Wes:

  • Failures: Breakneck 3-chord progressions recall a gaggle of coked-out lemmings, hurdling and collapsing over each other in an all-out sprint to who-the-fuck-knows-where, but without sacrificing what can’t be mistaken for anything other than high-level musicianship and tight-knit song structures, even as they make you bleed out the ears.
  • Total Abuse: listening to Total Abuse its impossible not to notice the constant collision of meat n’ taters American hardcore punk with a stagnant, tense, indeed abusive quality that recalls the more facemelting extremes of no wave and noise rock. Punx and pedal-pushers, together at long last.
  • Ripshit: Ripshit fucking rules. Hard. If you like punk rock, you’ll probably like this band; and if you don’t, to borrow from one of Ripshit’s own song titles, “You’re not punk and I’m telling everyone.” Short, fast, loud, and unmistakably demanding a circle pit, these paragons of the Ct diy hardcore scene are not to be missed.

Date: Thursday, February 12
Time: 9 pm
Place: WestCo Cafe
