The first preliminary slam of the semester is here.
10 poets. 2 rounds. Who will take the first three spots in the Wesleyan Final Slam? Come watch these poets battle with beautiful words. Anyone is welcome to slam, regardless of experience.
If you’ve never been to a slam before: come! If you’ve been to every slam we’ve ever had: come! You will laugh and snap and cheer and cry and maybe make some silly faces. WeSLAM is going into its 4th year, and we want to start it off right. You’re not going to want to miss this.
But that’s not all. We’re starting off the semester with an unbelievable guest feature and host: MEGAN FALLEY!
- WHEN?: Friday at 7:30pm
- WHERE?: WestCo Café

If you watch the video above, and then watch the one after the jump, you’ll get a sense for Marc Bamuthi Joseph’s talent. Combining dance, slam poetry, and storytelling, his performances are super lively and exciting. He’s back at Wes, where he last performed two years ago in summer 2011. Be sure to check him out! Blurb from the CFA and another video past the jump:
Have I a treat for you!
Come on out to the first poetry slam of the semester tonight! Two-person poems will be written, edited, and rehearsed in the 24 hours before the slam. These pieces will be raw, fresh, and/or tasty, so you will not want to miss out on the feast. Who will win? (It doesn’t matter.) Come out and see!
There will be an open mic before the slam, during which all acts are welcome. Come up and do your crazy act with the monkey if it strikes your fancy so.
And The Good News Poetry Tour will be featuring! Check out a poem from one of them here.
- DATE?: Today (Sat., February 23)
- TIME?: 7:30pm
- PLACE?: WestCo Café
- FACEBOOK?: Here.
- PANDA?: Panda.
More about the illustriously Good News Poetry Tour after the jump, for proof of their brilliance.
WeSLAM, Wesleyan’s premiere spoken-word organization, wants to know if you would be interested in participating a 24-hour group slam. Basically what this means is that you would be paired up with a fellow poet on a Friday night, you would brainstorm ideas for a group piece (examples: 1, 2, and 3), and then you would wake up early Saturday morning and get writing. On Saturday night, you would compete against other group poems for a chance at first place.
If this sounds remotely fun to you at all, then please email Coz Deicke ’15 at cdeicke(at)wesleyan(dot)edu.
