Lena Weiman (urboygarry) is a freshman at Wes, but behind the scenes, she’s also a well known Tiktoker with almost 800k followers. Her most viral videos are of her documenting the process of her shaving her head and painting dye into it. Fan favorite looks have included green-screen, cheetah print, Spongebob flowers, a tennis ball, and Aang’s arrow from Avatar the Last Airbender hair.

Here’s an updated collection of the essential (and currently active) social media accounts, as well as some of Wesleying’s personal favorites. This list isn’t complete, and new accounts are being created every year. Like, does Summies really need a parody Twitter? Chime in once again for things you think were passed over, because the official school-approved list (which doesn’t even include Wesleying) just won’t suffice. There are also individual Twitter feeds (both student and alumni) you’ll find useful to follow, but you’re on your own for discovering those. Nobody uses Pinterest, so don’t bother looking.

Spring semester is now fully underway – and with that comes the renewed efforts to get a job because never have you been in as much debt as you are in this moment. A seventh of the population of Wesleyan is now probably transfers, and all the cushy year long job positions are full. It’s too cold and wet for potential employers to post flyers with information you need; and so you turn to the internet to get hired…. and face it, the internet turns back at you and gives you the judgemental once over, looking at the literal and metaphorical sweatpants you have inhabited since the snow started.
So, let’s be honest here – we’ve all ignored the “you must be over thirteen to join this site” clause and have been on social media since the grim days of Myspace and AIM chat. Ahhh, the internet.
But, more seriously, we have ourselves spread extremely thin – you Snapchat™ your best friend so they will respond to you on Facebook™, only so you can link them to your Instagram™ post – which is, of course, a screenshot of you vaguely being salty and calling someone out on Twitter™. Oh, that’s only me? Anyway, we’ve got a lot of places where we speak, and, while that’s great for fostering self-expression – it might not be the expression you choose to share with your bosses/professors/anyone who has access to $$$. Because we all want that $$$ – [insert broke college student joke here].

When Rachel K. ‘17 walked into a crowded Times Square subway station on January 18th, she thought her trip would be the continuation of a decidedly average day. Instead, Rachel met Brandon Stanton, founder of the photoblog Humans of New York. Rachel was soon featured on the page, where her post received over 250,000 likes. Her newfound Facebook celebrity caused such a stir that she was forced to change her name because of all the online attention she was receiving.
Rachel, who is a prominent stand-up comedian on campus (she opened for Chris Gethard last semester) and a member of the sketch comedy group LunchBox, is the creator of a popular mock-HONY page appropriately titled “Hormones of Wesleyan.”

Learn to “Hate People,” put a “Camera” in someone’s room, breathe in “Oxygen,” “Take” her “Out,” and feel that “Constant Improvement,” all with your friends at Grand Cousin.
Remember when Henry Hall ’14 poured a milkshake on his head in the last Grand Cousin music video? Well, the falsettos and smooth beats are back; Grand Cousin – consisting of Hall, Evan Low ’14, and Robby Caplan ’14 – have just put out a video for their song “Camera” with the help of music video mavens Jack Coyne ’13 and Sidney Schleiff ’14.
Shot in a cramped bedroom in black and white, the video at first appears as an amateur home video. But soon, it is made clear through the bands’ lyrics, especially those scrawled out on their T-shirts, that they are shooting on location at a girl’s house. This discovery is affirmed when the boys rush out of the room with all their equipment and the subject of the song walks in. Several times she approaches the camera as if she spotted it, yet she only grabs a few miscellaneous items from the surrounding area. The video certainly has the fun and candid feel conveyed by the song, which I’ve been listening to and singing since first hearing it.
And I’m not the only one’s excited about it. The video currently has 3,000+ views, 2,500 of which were obtained over the span of two days! What could be the cause of this? Oh, I don’t know, maybe the fact that Heems of Das Racist tweeted about it?!
