Men’s Basketball Wins Big This Past Saturday

bjdavisFT-kuo-edmondsforweb

While you were wasting your time buying books at Broad Street, the Men’s Basketball team beat Connecticut College during their Saturday game. Their first NESCAC win, Cardinal fans hope this marks a change in the season. Although the game started rough and Wesleyan spent most of it trailing Conn. College, in the last 6 minutes they had a brilliant comeback and won the game with an 11-point margin of 77-68.

Saturday's game

BJ Davis ’16 made immense contributions, scoring 21 points and making 14 of 14 free throws. He deftly controlled the ball and plays during the last few minutes; he made five assists and five rebounds throughout the course of the game. After the graduation of some serious talent last year, it was heartening to see the younger Cardinals step it up on Saturday. Joe Edmonds ’16 added 19 points and Harry Rafferty ’17 bagged 15 points. The win bodes well for Wesleyan’s next NESCAC game against Bates, this coming Friday January, 31st. If Freeman seems too far away in the cold, you can always watch the live webcast of the game.

Esteemed broomball commissioners Ty Kelly ’14 and Gareth Novak-Miller ’14 send one of the most minimal event post blurbs this website has gotten in a while pertaining to broomball, an absurd hockey-like sport that involves people in sneakers playing hockey on the ice rink every Sunday:

Hear ye, hear ye!

Just When You Thought the Harlem Shake Was Over

The folks over at WesPregame just produced a video of some of the students from the Wesleyan Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) doing the Harlem Shake with fifth graders from Macdonough Elementary School. This video has remarkable potential to either cheer you up immensely as you’re studying in SciLi or help you celebrate the end of the midterms. Hope you enjoy either way.

Wesleyan Skiing and Snowboarding Teams Take the Slopes

Did you know that Wesleyan had Skiing and Snowboarding teams? Did you know that they are just as awesome as they sound?

On February 16 and 17, the club teams participated in the McBrine Division League Championships up in Vermont. The Women’s Ski Team qualified for USCSA Eastern Regionals after coming in fourth overall, and the men took first place qualifying for Regionals. Michael Creager ’15 and Chris Delaney ’14 came in second and third in the entire Men’s Ski Division.

Not to be outdone, the Wesleyan Snowboarding Team also vanquished the competition. Dylan Penn ’15Atticus Swartwood ’14, Lina Mamut ’13, and Zach Kaufman ’16 qualified for nationals. This is the snowboarding team’s first year as a club, and Mamut commented, “I’m stoked that Wes got the opportunity to compete in a snowboard league. As a senior, after years of just watching skiers go at it, it’s been incredibly fun to be able to compete with snowboarders from other schools in Slalom and Giant Slalom.”

View with a Room: The Bennet Baseball Bungalow

“But then [people] always say something to the effect of, ‘it’s going to suck to take this down’…”

Seriously, the frosh this year have truly outdone themselves. Behold the sports-clad fortress in Fauver/Bennet belonging to Chris Caines ’16 and Tim Israel ’16 (yes, that is his last name). Their room has become quite the legend amongst 2016ers. The space has 2,500 baseball cards lining the walls (and another thousand to be added this semester) and a blowup penguin named Sebastian as its centerpiece (the product of a two-hour trip to Walgreens).

“Chris decided to put some cards up one day and it looked extremely cool,” Tim explains. “We started talking about the idea of doing all of the walls and told our parents to send us all of our cards from home.”

“People usually are very surprised and amazed,” Chris adds. “But then they always say something to the effect of ‘it’s going to suck to take this down’.”
