This year’s lineup still follows the loosely defined Spring Fling template of “rap act, indie-ish buzz band, raucous opening act” of the pastfewyears, allowing us to reuse this sentence again and again, ya bishhh. Just kidding; Ryan Hemsworth seems to fit none of those categories, while Anamanaguchi probably takes buzz band and raucous opener simultaneously. “Electronic and electronically-backed music setting the stage for music press-electrifying rappers” is probably a better generalization this time around.
The lineup looks stacked this year! I’m excited to see the universal acclaim in the comments; a complete absence of complaints about the lineup has always been one of Spring Fling’s reliable standbys, year after year. (Ha ha ha.) Think your project’s missing? Put it in the submission form. Some quick overviews and music from the artists are after the jump.
Will “Waka Flocka” Feinstein ’13 and the rest of Spring Fling Committee have taken to YouTube with a cryptic message of sorts. Hold your horses—this isn’t the lineup announcement. It’s an announcement for an announcement, which is sort of like that time Will sent me a Facebook message to tell me he’d sent me an email (yesterday). Anyway, judging by the preview it looks like we got Avicii, so get psyched for public defecation.
Here’s a message from your friendly neighborhood Spring Fling Committee (who will be officially announcing the lineup imminently):
Battle of the Bands will take place Thursday, April 18 at Eclectic. The annual event, which determines the student opener for Spring Fling on May 9, will be accepting submissions all week!
If your band would like a chance to play, please submit 2 demos and/or live videos to wblee(at)wesleyan(dot)edu with the subject line “I Wanna Battle and Here is My Band.” Submissions are due Saturday at midnight.
Also if you are interested in being a judge for Battle of the Bands, please submit your answers to the following questions, also to wblee(at)wesleyan(dot)edu with the subject line, “I Want To Be A Judge for Battle of the Bands.” If you are selected, you are required to stay for the entire show and judge objectively.
