Audition for Directing 1!

directing-event

Nola Werlinich ’17 writes in:

Directing I is a studio course offered by the theater department for students interested in investigating the role and work of a director. For this class to be successful, we need student actors to work with us! Anyone–theater major or not–who’s interested in exploring two to three person scenes with a student-director can audition, and if you get in, you will receive a half credit for your work. You will need to be free on Mondays from 1:20pm-4:10pm.

We will be working with texts from classical and contemporary playwrights including but not limited to: Paula Vogel, Tennessee Williams, Quiara Hudes, and Arthur Miller.

If you are interested in auditioning, come by the Theater Studio (TST 001) between 6:30-9:30pm on Monday, September, 12. Be prepared with a 1-2 minute memorized monologue, and an explanation of why you chose it. Also, we encourage all people of all identities to audition!

Have questions? Feel free to contact Russell Goldman ’17 (our TA) at rgoldman[at]wesleyan[dot]edu

The Kindness of Strangers: A Thesis Production

PosterPosterFrom Leah Rosen ’14:

Come see “The Kindness of Strangers”, a senior thesis performance by Emily Hunt ’13

The Kindness of Strangers is a solo performance exploring the psychological journey of an actress struggling to find herself in the infamous character of Blanche Dubois (A Streetcar Named Desire). Konstantin Stanislavski’s and Bertolt Brecht’s philosophies and methodologies of theater, in particular, will be closely examined in relation to cognitive dissonance–how does one rationalize acting as a different person, a universal form of deception in the normal world, as “moral” on the stage?

Seating is very limited, so get there early! Run time is approximately 40 minutes.

Dates and Times:

  • Thursday, February 28th, 8pm
  • Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd, 7pm and 9pm

Place: ’92 Theater
Cost: Free! Tickets available day of at the box office.
