UCAB: Free Massage Night!

Leonid Liu ’14 sends in a blurb about what is arguably the most awesome UCAB event of the year:

You desperately need a study break, but you can’t rationally justify one. We can though. Feeling knotty? Need a good back rub? Want to reach a state of absolute zen and focus? Let us knead your troubles away in the most productive break of the year yet.

Join us for UCAB’s biannual Massage Night! This year we have expanded our slots (again) and can now accommodate 70 stressed out, tense, knotty Wes folks. But don’t be fooled, these free 15-minute time slots traditionally run out within minutes.

Our advice: be quick and expect the worst—a student-run ad hoc massage chain accompanied by free smoothies, parfaits, and fruits. If you’re lucky, you might even win the raffle prize: a gift certificate for a free 1-hour session with a local masseuse.

  • Date: TODAY, Thursday, October 13
  • Time: Sign-ups start at 8:30 PM for slots from 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Place: Daniel Family Commons (third floor of Usdan)
  • Cost: Free! (But honestly, if it was going to cost you money the title of this post would be quite misleading)

Challah Sale!!!

Cassandra Garvin ’14 hallas:

Come to Challah for Hunger’s first sale of the semester! We will be selling plain ($5) and apple, walnut and honey(!!) ($7) — there will also be some without nuts.  For completing an act of advocacy (come by to find out more!), you will get a $1 discount! The proceeds from the sale will go to aid in Darfur and local hunger relief efforts. Come early, cause the delicious challah will sell out quickly!

(Please keep in mind: unfortunately, we can only accept cash, not points or middletown cash)

Date: Oct. 2 – Oct. 2
Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Place: Olin Foyer Benches

Pointless Tuesday distraction: some anonymous tipster sent in this nuts time-lapse video of a mega-ginormous pumpkin currently growing in Broad Brook, Connecticut, just a little ways north of our own Middletown. The pumpkin’s owner, Ken Desrosiers, captured its two-and-a-half months of growth via time-lapse photography.

The 1,487-pound monster is officially the biggest pumpkin in Connecticut history. WHOAH. The video kind of looks like some mutant round baby creature emerging from the earth in a low budget 1960s Japanese horror movie.

Side note: if you want to learn all about the thriving underground community of giant pumpkin- and squash-growers, check out this “interactive web site to the giant pumpkin growing community.” I have gathered that the adjective “giant” here modifies the noun “pumpkin.” Not “community.”
