Kickstart a Swing! Documentary or Two, Why Don’t Cha?

Happy Sunday morning, everyone. Am I the only one who had a dream about WesWings last night? I blame Jana “Junk Hound” Heaton ’14:

For the first time in Wesleying’s history, someone’s writing about a WesAlum’s (a WeSlum’s?) KICKSTARTER campaign!

An ’87 alum, not the creator of Mad Men or the writer/director of the Avengers, but the woman who brought you Napoleon Dynamite (know your facts, y’all)–Susan Glatzer–is making a documentary about swing votes swing states SWING DANCING.

The film jumps into the little-known, underground community of swing dancing across the states and internationally…and shows some pretty sick swing dancing. Trust me. This is what I do all day. #WillInternForFood

Bringing back the swing! And blues too… A SWING & BLUES DANCE!

Time: 8-9 pm: Beginner Lesson; 9-11 pm: swing dancing for all; 11-12 pm: late-night blues
Place: Vinnie’s Jump & Jive, 424 Main Street
Cost: $5 for students; $8 for general admission

Happy birthday, F. Scott Fitzgerald (almost)! Party like it’s ’24 on the 25th. Wait, no. Flip that around. ’25, 24th, Saturday night, Alpha Delt:

Why? Because it’s F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Birthday and to celebrate there is a GREAT GATSBY-THEMED SWING NIGHT!

  • 2 to 4 pm: Full Swing Lesson! (in Fayerweather Dance Studio for extra sweet skillz)
  • 8:30 to 9:15 pm: Intro Swing Dance Lesson (AD)
  • 9:15 to 11:00 pm: Swing Dancing! (AD)

But what do I wear? For the evening, don your 1920s suits and flapper dresses! No experience necessary! No partner needed! Fo free! It’ll be Great. Like The Gatsby.

Swing and Blues Dance Workshop

crazy-swing-dance-photoWhat are these crazy kids up to? Come to the Swing and Blues Workshop to learn:

An amazing outside instructor (Emilio Estevez) will be coming to teach some lindy hop moves and how to “bluesify” swing. He will review the basics of the Lindy Hop and then move on to teach an intermediate level of the dance.
If you ever wanted to dance like a pro, or just meet some great people, you should come! No Partner Needed… and it’s FREE!
Date: Saturday, April 11th
Time: 2-6 pm

Chocolate Swing Dance at Alpha Delt

Do you like chocolate? Do you like music? Do you like dancing? If you answered “HELLZ YES” to any of the above questions, you should probably be here!

If you’ve never tried swing before, come to the lesson and give it a shot. If you’ve never heard good music before, plop your tush on one of ADP’s comfy couches and give a listen to our DJ. If you’ve never eaten chocolate before, well, you’ve basically missed out.

BUT, IT’S NOT TOO LATE! Come have a taste of Chocolate Swing.
