Waltz Away with WesBLAST

If you can walk, you can dance! Wesleyan’s Ballroom, Latin and Swing Team (WesBLAST) is offering Waltz, Rumba and Swing classes this semester. Our calendar is here (link). It is not necessary to bring a partner or have prior dance experience. But enthusiasm to learn is a must! For more information, check out our OrgSync page. Join our OrgSync group to be on the mailing list! Search Ballroom, Latin and Swing Team. Dancers do not have to conform to traditional gender roles in dancing. So if you like to lead, feel free to learn the leader’s steps instead of back-leading. See you there!

The Ballroom, Latin, and Swing Team is having its first dance class of the semester! We will be covering both American and International styles of dance (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Swing, Cha-Cha, Rumba) this semester. You don’t need experience or a dance partner (*phew*), but remember to bring that cash money! It’s only $30 per semester if you join the club or $50 per semester if you join the team (don’t worry, you can try out a few lessons before committing). So if you’re interested, come SWING on by with some dancin’ shoes (or your bare feet). See you there, hepcats of Wes!

Contra Dance and Swing/Blues Dance

What better way to celebrate the end of classes than with the last contra dance of the semester!?!

This dance is student run! Come check out our awesome callers, Rachel Fifer ’12 and Emma Gorin ’12, and student band including Micah Wylde ’12 and others!

All dances will be taught – no experience necessary. Newcomers are always welcome! Bring your friends or bring yourself! No partner needed.

There will also be a swing and blues dance immediately after the contra dance. Stay or come for that too!

There was just no way I could have made the header of this post more convoluted. I mean, it’s not Stanley Kubrick convoluted, but it’s the kind of convoluted that if read with a hangover would trigger a gag reflex, which would eventually lead to discharge, which would eventually lead to a banal conversation in Usdan.

The first contra dance of the year is THIS FRIDAY, 9/23, from 8-11pm, in Beckham Hall!

There will be LIVE MUSIC by Rebecca McCallum, Emily Troll ’10, Mary Cay Brass, and Roger Kahle, and calling by Adina Gordon.

Every dance will be taught, so if you’re a total beginner, there’s nothing to worry about!

Happy birthday, F. Scott Fitzgerald (almost)! Party like it’s ’24 on the 25th. Wait, no. Flip that around. ’25, 24th, Saturday night, Alpha Delt:

This Saturday, party like it’s 1925!

Why? Because it’s F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Birthday and to celebrate there is a GREAT GATSBY-THEMED SWING NIGHT!

  • 2 to 4 pm: Full Swing Lesson! (in Fayerweather Dance Studio for extra sweet skillz)
  • 8:30 to 9:15 pm: Intro Swing Dance Lesson (AD)
  • 9:15 to 11:00 pm: Swing Dancing! (AD)

But what do I wear? For the evening, don your 1920s suits and flapper dresses! No experience necessary! No partner needed! Fo free! It’ll be Great. Like The Gatsby.
