Animated Thesis Film Seeks Background Artists

Ben Smith ’13 is taking a break from his lucrative career at Buzzfeed to animate a thesis film:

Seeking background artwork for Wesleyan’s one and only animated Senior Film Thesis! Ben Smith ’13 is looking for background artists to help bring this animated thesis to life. This dark comedy is not your Saturday morning cartoon. Set in a sleepy town in Oregon, Pearly Whites details the events that occur in the life of a dentist whose newest patient has become addicted to Nitrous oxide (laughing gas). The film deals with themes of depression, parenting, and teeth. Lots and lots of teeth. The animation is already in full production but is in serious need of a team of background artists.

No prior experience with digital animation necessary, although if interested in contributing to the motion animation itself, please state so in your email.

Deadline: Soon

Wesleyan Filmmaker Wants Your ’90s Treasures

Danny Witkin ’13 wants your assorted ’90s memorabilia. This is not a drill. Unfortunately, my sweet “Reelect the First Family in ’96” magnet just misses the cut:

Do you possess some awesome detritus from the Clinton years? The pre-Dubya Bush years? If so, consider this: Sam Barth ’13 is making a movie, DIAL-UP, about the early 1990s. Mr. Barth will sincerely appreciate anything you are willing to lend him until Thanksgiving. He will care for it as if it was a cherished memento of his own childhood. In addition, he might just give your memorabilia its big break.

If you have: awesome posters, toys, action figures, furniture, miscellany, as well as a generous heart, please contact Danny Witkin at dzwitkin(at)wesleyan(dot)edu.

Senior Thesis Film Seeks Puppeteers

The one and only Michael Steves ’13 is needs people that can control smaller people:

Have you ever made or operated puppets? If so, your skills are needed! I am looking for several talented people to make and operate puppets for my senior thesis film, titled “Tony in Spectaculand”. The film is about a gritty, beleaguered police officer who has to rescue his daughter from a child-like wonderland after she flees the drudgery of the real world.

We are hoping to include several fantastical puppet creatures in the film, similar in style to those in The Dark Crystal (though much more low-key). Email me at msteves(at)wesleyan(dot)edu if you are interested.

Audition for ‘Sing A Little Song With Me’

Marisa Stotter ’13 is producing a musical. Last she was hunting for a musical ensemble. Now she wants musically inclined actors:

Are you an actor? A singer? A dancer? Are you tired of letting Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire have all the fun? Then come audition for Sing A Little Song With Me, the only musical comedy suspense romance action film being made on campus this year!

We are looking for male and female performers to fill both singing and non-singing parts. We are looking for two Leads (one male, one female, singing required), one major supporting role (male, non-singing), and 4-5 supporting roles (any gender, no singing skill required). Dance experience is appreciated but not necessary.

Animated Thesis Film Seeks Voice Actors

Ben Smith ’13 is making an animated thesis film, which will feature “lots and lots of teeth.” He’s looking for voice actors—not necessarily “cartoony” voices or impressions, just “good voice acting”:

Let’s get animated! Become a voice and persona behind a character in Benjamin Smith ’13’s traditionally-animated senior thesis film, Pearly Whites. This dark comedy is not your Saturday Morning’s cartoon. Set in a sleepy town in Oregon, Pearly Whites details the events that occur in the life of a dentist whose newest patient has become addicted to Nitrous oxide (laughing gas). The film deals with themes of depression, parenting, and teeth. Lots and lots of teeth.

Voice Actor Requirements: The script has five male parts and one female part. However, two of the male roles are aged 8-10 years old, so they should be of particular interest to child and female voice actors. The other three male voices are 40 or “younger father’s age.” The single female voice is also 40. Those interested should note that this film does not require “cartoony” voices or impressions, just good voice acting.
