Nietzsch Factor first practice

From David Canter ’11:

nietzch-factor

Are you athletic yet sensitive? Do you want to beat Brown, Dartmouth, Yale, MIT, and many other schools in a highly competitive and athletically demanding team sport combining the dynamism of soccer, the physicality of basketball, and the rationality of physics? Do you identify with the male gender? Then Wesleyan’s men’s ultimate frisbee team Nietzsch Factor (no, I didn’t forget the ‘e’- it is just spelled that way) is right for you!

Come to our first practice at the bottom of Foss Hill Tuesday September 8th at 4:30. Bring cleats (if you have them), water, and show up a few minutes early for the warm up!

Date: Tuesday, September 8th
Time: 4:30 pm

Vicious Circles Sweep Ultimate Frisbee Sectionals

vicious-circles-sectionalsNot to be outdone by male counterparts Nietzsch Factor this past weekend, the women’s ultimate frisbee club team Vicious Circles also swept sectionals in Kingston, Rhode Island, for the third year in a row.

The team competed in a tournament of 9 teams from the area, including those from Brown, Yale, and the University of Rhode Island. Led by team captains Laura Masulis ’09 and Sara Hirsch ’09, Vicious Circles won all four games and did not allow any team to score more than 3 points on Saturday.

Vicious Circles went up against Brown’s Disco Inferno in a heated championship battle for the title on Sunday, and even with heavy costal winds, Vicous Circles won 10 to 6. The team will advance to New England Regionals at Dartmouth along with Nietzch Factor on May 2nd, where the competition will be better and the stakes will be higher.

Also, Vicious will be selling discs soon – look out.img_3632

Nietzsch Factor wins sectionals

sectionalschampsThis weekend Wesleyan hosted the Southern New England Ultimate Frisbee Sectionals Tournament – the weather was beautiful and Nietzsch Factor dominated the tournament, beating Brown in the finals by a score of 14 to 9.

Other than Brown, the only team to score more than 4 points against Wesleyan was the University of Rhode Island, who scored 8. Nietzsch Factor was led by strong performances from captains, Phil Benjamin ’09 and Gus Seixas ’10. Many team members are graduating this year, but the underclassmen have been playing well this season and give hope for the future.

Nietzsch Factor will be going to regionals in two weeks to play teams such as Harvard, Tufts, Middlebury, and others. Good luck!

Wesleyan Ultimate is Awesometimes

Wesleyan Ultimate sent three teams to the High Tide ultimate tournament this week in Savannah, GA (where I currently am). Vicious Circles won the women’s division, Nietzsch Factor B won the men’s B division, and NF took second in the men’s division. Yay!

Ultimate, and why you should play it

This is going to be a blatant wank, but what the hell. The women’s Ultimate team at Wesleyan is called Vicious Circles. We are very fun-loving and friendly, and would love to have any interested female-assigned persons. We practice three or four times a week, and like to throw parties, and are getting better by the moment, but not intimidatingly so. Even if you’ve never played before (and most recruits haven’t), we’ll teach you.

See how friendly!? (mfoos@wes)
