Sixth grade is rarely the best year in a person’s life, and most would agree that it would have gone a bit smoother with the help of older, nicer, cooler friends. Now is your opportunity to be that friend to some of the students at the Keigwin Middle School, home to nearly every sixth-grader in Middletown. Keigwin’s after-school program is looking for volunteers from Wesleyan to provide homework help, discuss their own educational experiences, and even teach enrichment mini-courses on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 2:35 to 4:45 pm. The program is also providing small stipends for two students to serve as coordinators for this semester and next year.
There will be an info meeting for volunteers and coordinators on Monday, March 24. If you’d like to be considered for a coordinator position, send a brief paragraph on your interest in the position and experience with tutoring to Rob Arpin at arpinr[at]mpsct[dot]org and Rosy Capron ’14 at scapron[at]wesleyan[dot]edu by noon on Monday.

Do you want to study abroad in Africa? Are you interested in volunteering in Africa, or learning more about African Studies at Wesleyan?
If so, come along to Africa @ Wesleyan, an information session (with free lunch) covering all of these topics. Carolyn Sorkin from the office of international studies will talk about programs for studying in Africa, and Wesleyan students will talk about their experiences studying and volunteering in various locations on the continent. We’ll also talk about current programming in African Studies at Wesleyan.
