Ben Jacobs ’14, the dashing tall blond gentlemen whose eyes could be described accurately with the simile “like icebergs in the cold waters of the Arctic Sea, piercing hearts worldwide as icebergs pierced the hull of the Titanic on that dark and fateful night so many years ago, that night that shall forever live on in infamy layered with Leonardo DiCaprio and why didn’t they both just jump onto that door it would TOTALLY have held them for at LEAST long enough for help to arrive what a fucking stupid end to a movie” sends us this message from the Wesleyan Spirits:

The Wesleyan Spirits want YOU…

Especially if you’re a male who enjoys singing! The Wesleyan Spirits, Wesleyan’s oldest all-male a cappella group, is holding auditions for all dudes, homies, sk8er boiz, ballaz, hustlas, pimps, playas, bros, or all around good-guys with angelic voices. Or heck, forget all those labels and just COME OUT AND AUDITION! Nothing would make us happier than singing with you! Here are the details:

Dates: Wednesday, September 4; Thursday, September 5
Times: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, 9/4; 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, 9/5
Place: The Greene Room in Alpha Delta Phi–the building on the corner of High Street and Church Street.
Bring: A song, a smile, maybe a haiku, or really whatever suits your fancy. You do you ;)

Wesleyan Spirits’ Fall Jam

Marc Whittington ’13 invites time travelers and dead sheep alike to this Chapel performance:

The Wesleyan Spirits, Wesleyan’s oldest all-male a cappella group, are at it again! No lie!

Featuring the souls of 26 dead sheep and goats, the Wesleyan’s oldest all-male acappella group will be singing the traditional Wesleyan Black Book songs as well as some dirty pop music for all of your listening pleasure.

The Spirits please ask all audience members to bring a change of clothes and some flashing strobe lights to keep us alive during our
concert. Admission charge will be very expensive and our sheep souls would appreciate donations of raw grains under 15 ounces. Don’t be a fool and listen to what anyone else tells you! Missing this event will not result in sheep hauntings! But your attendance was all we ever want, or else we feel such pain. Alums: Don’t hate us, we want you back.

Unfortunately for all of us, there will not be a live webcast of Fall Jam this year due to some papers being pushed off of necessary desks. If you’d like, you can check the concert out on our youtube page later. If you are a time traveler, you might even be able to watch our concert on youtube right now! Check to see for yourself.

Date: December 7, 2012
Time: 8:00 pm
Place: Memorial Chapel
Cost: Free

Wesleyan Spirits Spring Jam on Saturday

AJ “Big Bird” Hinds ’12, coming into my house, and once again, as always, as forever, making it all about him, with typical questionable humor:

Comrade,

Against my better judgment, I am once again asking you to post about the Spirits’ Spring Jam (also known as my Senior Thesis because, as you know, I am a weak, weak man incapable of completing an actual thesis). It would be great if you could post it sometime tomorrow, but I wanted to send the info to you today, so that I didn’t forget amidst the festivities.

Title: Wesleyan Spirits Spring Jam: A Senior Thesis Presentation by AJ Hinds ’12
Time: Saturday, May 12 at 7pm
Location: Memorial Chapel
Price: Free
Face: Book

Anyway, Garth Taylor ’12 already had his equivalent of a senior thesis with the Rooks in the ’92 concert, and that shit was tight.

Oh god I can’t write sentences right now.

Spirits/Sinners Haunt Olin Tomorrow

Listen, AJ “Big Bird” Hinds ’12, I don’t even know why you’re sending emails to me. Everybody knows that almost EVERY-FRIGGIN’-BODY shows up to Spirits shows when they happen. And it usually gets buzz in the best, traditional way possible: word of mouth. You know what? Word of mouth is great. Word of mouth is old school. If you get 100+ people to your performance due to word of mouth, guess what? You just got so much street cred, Winnie the Pooh is gonna have the honey-gasm of his life.

But here you are. Sending me an email to promote the Spirits/Sinners show on Wesleying. And, oh, look, you even attached a stupid picture with a guy who looks like Botoxed-Lebowski. You know what you just did? You brought down the cred man, you brought it down bad. I hope Garth Taylor ’12 shows up, because somebody’s gotta clean up the mess you just made.

“For the past four years, the Wesleyan Spirits and the Cardinal Sinners have been content singing on their own, never even considering that there could be something more. But fear not, friends! We have learned the error of our ways, and wish to invite you all to a musical miracle, a sing-song spectacular, an [insert obnoxious alliteration here]!

Where: Olin Lobby
When: Saturday 11/12, 8:00-8:45pm

Come enjoy some music, without all the clutter of those damned instruments, and then head off into the night to party–or whatever you kids do nowadays…”

Read on to see the original email.
