If you’ve been curious about that crazy garden growing behind Weshop, stop by the first WILD Wes workday of the year to learn more and get involved in its design and maintenance. All are welcome, whether you’re an experienced gardener or you’re just interested in sustainability (or you want free homegrown kale and plums). People who know anything about scaring away groundhogs are particularly welcome.
Workdays happen every Saturday from 1 to 4 pm, and weekly meetings are TBD. You can read more about WILD Wes here and here and connect with the group through OrgSync.
Sick of being cooped up inside? Nathaniel Dolton-Thornton ’15 invites you out to the pristine wilderness of WILD Wes for a workday:
Come out tomorrow from 12-4 for the weekly WILD Wes workday in the WestCo courtyard! We just got the seeds to sprinkle for ground cover across the entire site — but we have to move a bunch of extra wood chips first, and we’re trying to get it all done before the colder and wetter the weather sets in. Stop on by, learn about some plants, touch (or don’t touch) some dirt, think about where you actually are — it’ll be sweet! Also, if all goes well this weekend, come on by next weekend to help seed the meadow and ground cover for everything!
It’s been a great couple of days in the WestCo courtyard. After an amazingly fun, happyZonker Harris Day, the Bea’les (Matt Hurwit ’12, Jordan Lewis ’13,John Ryan ’14, Sam Long ’12, Howe Pearson ’12, and Abaye Steinmetz-Silber ’12) played on the WestCo skybridge for an energetic crowd in the courtyard below. They played about an hour long set of Beatles classics and crowd favorites; lots of dancing ensued.
HTML overlord Tobias Butler ’13 sends in video evidence of synth-pop duo Tanlines’ compulsively danceable ’80s nostalgia-fest in the WestCo Courtyard yesterday afternoon. The Brooklyn-based outfit took the stage after sets by tried-‘n-true Wes bands Lyon’s Den (read: not Lioness), North Paw, Yeoman’s Omen, Treasure Island, Spring Fling openers Peace Museum, and Grand Father. The clip depicts a whole lotta bouncin’ happening to the beat of Tanlines’ minor hit “Real Life,” which appears on the group’s just released debut LP Mixed Emotions. High five to the weather, too—there’s something to be said for the first sunny, uninterrupted ZonkerHarris day since when I was a prefrosh.
Be sure to check out 2:03, when the whole front section of the crowd jumps in unison, and don’t miss A-Batte’s freakish arm choreography at approximately 00:45. Scroll on for a few more images from Tanlines’ and Grand Father’s spirited sets at Zonker Harris Day 2012.
If you (a) are on campus this week and (b) know what sheet-mulching is, you’re in for a treat: WILDWes sheet-mulching work days. It’ll be just like Woodstock, but without the drugs, or Janis Joplin.
Details via WW rep Manon Lefevre ’14:
This coming Thursday and Friday, WILD Wes will be hosting sheet-mulching work days from around 10:00 to 5:00 in the WestCo Courtyard, and we would love for you to join us! We will be out there breaking down cardboard, laying out compost and mulch, and potentially doing some digging. If you are confused as to where the Courtyard is, need more information, or just want to send moral support, contact Manon Lefevre ’14 at 860-918-8830 or Andrew Pezzullo ’13 at 207-615-7742.
