If you’ve been struggling with anxiety, depression, the pace of college life, loneliness, stress, relationships, or anything else, please come join us! Trained students facilitate, as well as participate, in the support groups. Groups will maintain a strict policy of confidentiality in order to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all attendees. From Elizabeth Arslanoglou ’16:
Are you an international student? Are you facing difficulties in adapting to classes and social life at WES? Do you feel that your cultural norms are different from those in the US? Do you believe that there are many things you just don’t get here? Do you feel homesick? Do you want a group of people similar to you to talk to?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, join us in our New Mental Health Support Group, specifically focused on International Students. The group will be facilitated by trained students who will also be active participants in the discussion. We will be having weekly friendly conversations about issues that concern us, relative to our transition from other cultures into a US college campus. You are not the only one out there facing “culture shock” so come share your experiences and thoughts!
Date: February 23-May 11
Time: 8-9 PM
Place: Memorial Chapel Meditation Room
WESupport writes in to invite you to their office hours, which start today:

We hold office hours to provide support for students who would like to speak confidentially with a peer. Our office hours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 1-4pm every week. For more information, go to our website.
Dates and times: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 1:00pm – 4:00pm

The WESupport student group is once again teaming up with Counseling and Psychological Services to bring you the Mental Health Support Groups. If you’ve been struggling with depression, anxiety, the pace of college life, loneliness, stress, or anything else of that nature, you should join us! All are welcome! The groups will be facilitated by trained students who are also participants. We maintain a policy of confidentiality among group members in order to ensure as safe and respectful an environment as possible.
* On Mondays 4:30-5:45pm the group will remain open for students to come and go each week as they please.
* On Wednesdays 4:30-5:45pm we will meet as a closed group that maintains a set number of members, which will be solidified within the first couple weeks of meeting.

Claire Wright ’16 asks you to take a survey about support groups:
Want a safe space to talk about different topics? Not sure there is a support group that is right for you? Well now you get a chance to pick what support groups will be available next year at Wesleyan!
WESupport, a student-run group that will provide office hours, support groups, and TAs for CAPS’ WESupport training, is planning out which support groups to run next year. Follow the (one-minute) survey to select support group topics you would like to see at wesleyan or give us an idea for your own.
Here’s the link to the survey.
As one of the organizers of last semester’s Send Silence Packing suicide awareness event (remember that thing with all the backpacks?), I got a lot of questions along the lines of “What can I do to help my friends who are struggling with mental illnesses?” and “How can we build a community in which we support each other and ultimately prevent suicide?” WeSupport, a program cosponsored by CAPS and Active Minds, is an attempt to address these issues:
WeSupport is a 6-session workshop offered by Counseling and Psychological Services and Active Minds. In a series of six 1-hour discussions, we will train students to be peer mental health advocates. Participating students will learn about a variety of mental health topics, become familiar with the signs a friend or acquaintance may be in distress, gain practice talking with someone who is struggling, and become conversant in both campus and community resources. Students who complete the six-session series will have the option of joining a network of Wesleyan peer mental health advocates.
Schedule of sessions and info about how to sign up after the jump.
