Nearly empty Winter Olin

What is winter break like at Wesleyan? Pretty quiet and peaceful (so far…I’ve only been here for three days). If you’re here for winter session, senior thesis work, winter sports, or just hanging, it’s pretty cool to have the main parts of campus mostly to yourself. There were probably only 10 students in Olin today, which means you have access to basically any chair or outlet you want. It’s also really fucking cold, though there’s not as much snow as in New York or Philly.

If you’re here, Usdan is your best on-campus dining option (Neon Deli is also open, as is Nardelli’s, and basically every other Middletown dining joint. Special shout out to Tschudin Chocolates, whose Chef just won the Food Network show Rewrapped). Usdan’s open with limited service for lunch and dinner until January 19th. If you purchased a meal plan for winter session, you can use your meals. Otherwise, you can use cash, Middletown cash, or credit card. Usdan resumes full dinner service on January 20th, which is also when Weshop opens. Red&Black and Weswings also re-open on January 20th. Full dining hours here

Broomball! Tonight! 8:45 PM!

03

Esteemed broomball commissioners Ty Kelly ’14 and Gareth Novak-Miller ’14 send one of the most minimal event post blurbs this website has gotten in a while pertaining to broomball, an absurd hockey-like sport that involves people in sneakers playing hockey on the ice rink every Sunday:

Hear ye, hear ye!

Come one, come all to the first meeting of Broomball 2014. Why? Because who doesn’t like falling down on ice.

Date: Sunday, January 26
Time: 8:45 PM
Place: Freeman Ice Rink

Did you know that Wesleyan had Skiing and Snowboarding teams? Did you know that they are just as awesome as they sound?

On February 16 and 17, the club teams participated in the McBrine Division League Championships up in Vermont. The Women’s Ski Team qualified for USCSA Eastern Regionals after coming in fourth overall, and the men took first place qualifying for Regionals. Michael Creager ’15 and Chris Delaney ’14 came in second and third in the entire Men’s Ski Division.

Not to be outdone, the Wesleyan Snowboarding Team also vanquished the competition. Dylan Penn ’15Atticus Swartwood ’14, Lina Mamut ’13, and Zach Kaufman ’16 qualified for nationals. This is the snowboarding team’s first year as a club, and Mamut commented, “I’m stoked that Wes got the opportunity to compete in a snowboard league. As a senior, after years of just watching skiers go at it, it’s been incredibly fun to be able to compete with snowboarders from other schools in Slalom and Giant Slalom.”
