Apply to be a Writing Tutor!

If you love to read, write, and—most importantly—help others with their writing, apply to be a writing tutor this spring!

The Writing Workshop has several positions open for qualified students looking to be Writing Workshop tutors, writing mentors, and thesis mentors for the spring 2016 semester.

Writing tutors receive a $500 stipend and 1/2 course credit in the Writing Certificate. In order to apply, you will need to do the following:

1) Fill out a pre-application form HERE.
2) Fill out a hard copy of the full application by November 1st at 8:00 AM. Applications are due to Ford Fellow Gabe Borelli in Downey 103 and can be found HERE.

Worried about your writing? Fear no more! Apply now for a Writing Mentor, a personal tutor who will meet with you privately to help you with your writing. Mentors can help you at all stages of the writing process — generating ideas, structuring your essay, improving grammar, clarity and style, or simply managing your time — and will meet with you weekly to address all of your writing worries and woes. If you participate, a specially trained sophomore, junior, or senior will meet with you throughout the semester.

We work with students of all writing abilities and in all disciplines, and all services are, of course, free.

Please apply by 8:00AM on Monday, September 19th. We will notify new mentees by the 21st, and we will hold a reception for new mentor-mentee couples on the 23rd. We look forward to working with you!

The Writing Programs are currently hiring Writing Workshop Tutors, Course Tutors, and Writing Mentors for the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters. Tutors will be compensated for one semester of work with a $400 stipend and 1 course credit in English. All tutors are trained in ENGL 491/2, the Ford Teaching Seminar, a one-semester course that meets on Tuesdays from 12-1 PM.

Tutors will be compensated for one semester of work with a $400 stipend and 1 course credit in English. All tutors are trained in ENGL 491/2, the Ford Teaching Seminar, which meets on Tuesdays from 12-1pm.

There are two steps in the application process:

1. The pre-application form is due online on Monday, October 27 at 5 pm. This is a short form indicating your interest in applying for a position.

2. The full application is due on Monday, November 3 at 5 pm. Applications are to be delivered to Professor Greene’s office (Downey House Room 207).

If you’re interested in being paid to help fellow students with their writing and develop yours in the process, don’t forget that the pre-application to work as a Writing Tutor is due this Friday, April 19th, at 5 p.m. The full application is due next Friday, April 26th, at 5 p.m.

Working as a writing tutor is impressive on a resume or a grad school application–if you’re planning to enter a field in which writing is important (that’s most fields, by the way!), having experience as a tutor will make you stand out. Tutoring is also really rewarding, and fun!
